California Dreamin’. God Only Knows. Mr Tambourine Man. It’s Too Late. You’ve Got A Friend. Everybody’s Talkin’. Love The One You’re With. These are just some of the timeless classics that defined a generation – and will come to life for one magical night under the stars when Songs From The Canyon makes its much-anticipated debut at Live At The Gardens at Melbourne’s beautiful Royal Botanic Gardens on Sunday 30 November.
Featuring an all-star ensemble of acclaimed singers and musicians – HUSKY GAWENDA, CHARM OF FINCHES, HANNAH CAMERON, STEPHEN GRADY, DAN CHALLIS and, joining the lineup for the first time, You Am I legend and solo star DAVEY LANE – Songs From The Canyon will transport audiences back to the golden age of music and Laurel Canyon, where melodies and stories came together in perfect harmony. Our homegrown troubadours will pay homage to the iconic songs of Joni Mitchell, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, The Mamas & The Papas, The Byrds, The Beach Boys, Carole King, The Doors and many more
Songs From The Canyon is a celebration of Laurel Canyon’s golden era, the bohemian neighbourhood nestled in the Hollywood Hills of Los Angeles, that gave rise to some of the most influential and melodic music of the 1960s and ’70s. A fertile creative hub where peace, love and music reigned. From all-night jam sessions to chart-topping masterpieces, Laurel Canyon birthed an iconic sound that continues to echo through generations
Roundhouse Entertainment, in conjunction with MG Live, is thrilled to present this unforgettable night. Songs From The Canyon is part of the Live At The Gardens series, set in the heart of the city, in the stunning surrounds of Melbourne’s iconic Royal Botanic Gardens.
Tickets for Songs From The Canyon at Live At The Gardens go on sale Tuesday 22 July from Ticketmaster at 11.00am local time, with Live At The Gardens and Roundhouse beginning Monday 21 July at 10.00am local time
Singer-songwriter and the show’s musical director Husky Gawenda reflects on his involvement, saying: “Laurel Canyon was a wellspring of near-perfect songs and golden harmonies that still resonate today. Bringing this to life with Melbourne’s best folk artists is like the fulfilment of a dream. It feels magical and I can tell the audiences feel that magic too – it really is a transcendent experience. And we can think of no more perfect venue than the Botanic Gardens – surrounded by nature, under the stars, it’s the ideal setting for these timeless songs.
The vision behind Songs From The Canyon belongs to artist manager Rick Chazan who first dreamed up the show nearly 20 years ago after hearing a sublime cover of Crosby, Stills & Nash at Brisbane’s Troubadour, sparking an idea that has grown into a national phenomenon gracing some of Australia’s most prestigious stages since premiering at Melbourne’s Chapel Off Chapel in 2022.
“I loved, loved, loved the show … every song is a part of our lives and brilliantly performed … it was remarkable!” Brian Nankervis
“Make no mistake, this is the finest of feel-good entertainment that puts you in a happy place. It is mellow, mellifluous and downright magical. Harmony and bonhomie proliferate. Savour it.” The Blurb
Opening the show is Freya Josephine Hollick, the Ballarat-based rising star of Australia’s alt-country scene, known for her haunting vocals and genre-blending sound of cosmic country, desert blues and psych-folk. Her latest album, The Real World – recorded in Joshua Tree with Lucinda Williams’ band, Buick 6 – was dubbed by Double J as “one of the 50 best albums of 2022”, reaching number one on the AIR 100% Independent chart and number two on ARIA’s Australian Country chart. Her latest single Inevitable Sorrow, featuring soaring fiddle and psychedelic banjo, is a striking return to her earlier work. As veteran music journalist Jeff Jenkins said, “I have heard hundreds of Australian singers and songwriters. Many of them are good, some are very good, but only a few are truly special – and I put Freya Josephine Hollick in that category”
Whether you lived through the original Laurel Canyon era or are just discovering its timeless sound, Songs From The Canyon is a rare opportunity to experience these legendary songs live – in a setting as breathtaking as the music itself.
Following sold-out seasons across the country, this acclaimed concert tribute comes to Live At The Gardens for one night only on Sunday 30 November, under the stars in the majestic surrounds of the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne. Relive the era that defined a sound and don’t miss your chance to be transported to the heart of the ’60s and ’70s, as a cast of homegrown troubadours bring these beloved classics to life.

AMNPLIFY – DB

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
