A twelve track ode to love, relationships and mental health
The highly anticipated debut album from Fremantle four piece Spacey Jane, Sunlight, is available globally today. The 12 track album was written and recorded over a 12 month period, in short and intense bursts in and around various parts of Western Australia and has been the feature album on triple j all this week.
In typical Spacey Jane style, sonically the tracks are summery, jangly and make you want to hit the repeat button, but lyrically there’s more than meets the ear. Sunlight traces deeply personal journeys of failed romantic and family relationships, mental health disasters and running from everyone in your late-teens/early-twenties. The debut album includes the already released tracks “Good Grief”, “Head Cold”, “Skin”, “Good For You”, which came in at #80 in triple j’s Hottest 100 and latest single, “Straightfaced”.
Releasing an album in this current climate has seen a need for creative ideas around connectivity. As such, Spacey Jane will be hosting a live and interactive Zoom Album Launch Party next Friday 19 June for those who pre-ordered the album, offering Q&As, acoustic performances and a high chance of Mario Kart. My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
