It was 2001. Aussie music fans were sifting through CD’s at their local record store, wearing low rise cargo pants and sporting blonde tips; and an inaugural lineup of nineteen acts, headlined by Powderfinger, played to a sold-out crowd of 12,500 people at Belongil Fields on one glorious winter’s day at the very first Splendour in the Grass festival. The punters loved it and the seed was sown for what would become an iconic annual pop culture moment and Australia’s biggest celebration of music. It’s been one helluva ride and we’re only just getting started!

Music lovers! The 20th annual Splendour in the Grass Music and Arts Festival returns to its home at North Byron Parklands from Friday 24 to Sunday 26 July with a #yuge crew of artists, and a celebration that’s set to make your earfquake!

Kaleidoscopic and controversial Grammy award winning rappers, the world’s seminal indie greats, pioneering producers and Australian rock royalty will take off into the Splendour stratosphere alongside a hand-picked selection the freshest international and homegrown talent across the The Amphitheatre, GW McLennan and Mix Up stages. Plus, this year Splendour’s new PARK(lands) Stage will feature handpicked lineups bought to you by the Secret Sounds, Astral People and Love Police brains trusts.

Flume made his Splendour debut back in 2012 and has since achieved worldwide domination! With 11 x ARIA Awards and a Grammy on the shelf, the Hottest 100’s current #2 place holder has played every major music festival on the planet and this year will stop in at Coachella, Bonnaroo and Governor’s Ball before we welcome him back to Splendour for his only Australian show this year.

Perenially on point, The Strokes are bona fide rock n roll royalty! With a new single just out and their first album in seven years ‘The New Abnormal’ set to drop in April, The Strokes will hit the stage at Splendour after headline spots at Primavera Sound, Way Out West, Lollapalooza, The Governor’s Ball and Shaky Knees to name a few.

Exclusive to Splendour and after a stunning performance and win at the 2020 Grammy Awards, Tyler, The Creator will play his first ever all ages Australian show. From Odd Future to Igor, he is inarguably one of the most innovative artists on the planet and will touch down at Splendour via headline spots at Primavera Sound, Roskilda and Parklife.

This party portal will send you into a bush doof universe of underground sounds and subversive sub-genres, spun by some of the best selectors and producers from Byron and surrounds. Connect with the beat and the people around you as epic lightscapes and psychedelic art guide the way.

Doofed so hard you strained a chakra? Set things right at THE GLOBAL VILLAGE! Get grounded with a yoga class, sip on kombucha or a warm chai, oggle over your future with an oracle, indulge in a massage or get involved in some circus play. When it’s time to adventure, transport yourself to the far reaches of the musical spectrum at THE WORLD STAGE where you’ll be immersed in sounds from all corners of the globe.

Keep your brain cells in check at THE FORUM! Back with an impressive bunch of insightful, remarkable and damn intelligent individuals, take a seat and listen up to a variety of thought-provoking talks and panels across the weekend. Round it all off with a cheeky chuckle sesh at THE COMEDY CLUB, where the the funniest people in the comedy biz will be dishing up shits ‘n gigs each evening.

Perfecting your gin to juice ratio about as technical as you get? You need to check in at THE SCIENCE TENT! If you found 2019’s presentation on pill testing by Dr David Caldicott informative, then get ready for another brain-broadening stint in 2020. Prepare to launch yourself into a world of mind-blowing talks, explosive experiments, hands-on workshops and fact-checking realness from Friday through to Sunday.

Feeling parched? Whether you’re a craft beer connoisseur or bubbly buff, Splendour’s got myriad watering holes that’ll whet a variety of appetites including a few new spots to explore…

Picture your ultimate OTT disco ball and glitter fantasy and you’ll be getting close to the utter fabulousness of Splendour’s new RAINBOW BAR. Long overdue, this new stop on your Splendour itinerary will feature programming by some of the LGBTQI community’s favourite party markers.

Prefer a mocktail or a kombucha? Whether you’re in the midst of Dry July, One Year No Beer or just managing your overall wellness, Splendour has you covered. Our all new, alcohol free TEMPERANCE BAR will be serving up an enviable array of non-alcoholic beverages by a renowned mixologist. Stay tuned for more details in the months to come!

And if you’re up for living the high life then Splendour’s VIP VILLAGE is your festival home away from home, with access to your very own private retreat plus VIP access to the Golden View in the Amphitheatre. With Sydney’s famous Dolphin Hotel on cocktail duty and Mary’s Pizzeria serving up the best slice in town, there’s also a concierge, express event entry lanes, coat check, fancy toilets and more. Supercharge your Splendour experience and do 2020 in style!

The munchies got you good? Travel through your taste buds and explore tons of delicious offerings at the three food halls dotted around the site, or pull up at The Truck Stop, where punters can re-fuel on a tasty array of street-style eats.

No Splendour 2019 experience was complete without going ham on the ‘gram to the epic art installations dotted around the site, including the legendary Hiromi Hotel by Hiromi Tango or Cool Shit’s inflatable The Rock. Prepare your eyeballs (and your feed) for more legendary SPLENDOUR ARTS in 2020!

Bali is sooo 2018! Ditch the braids and the bintangs and bring the fam to Splendour! From young thugs to teenage dirtbags, Splendour has the whole tribe sorted when it comes to living your best festival family life. Unleash those little terrors at LITTLE SPLENDOUR, the ultimate family playground. Discover DJ Skool, burn some energy rock climbing, get involved in some workshops or dive into dress ups. Hanging to make a run for it? Little Splendour’s babysitting service is on hand so you can sneak in a bevvy or five. And when they’re all tuckered out, tuck yourselves in at The Meadow, Splendour’s designated family campground that is out of earshot from the main campground so you’ll be catching ZZZs in no time at all.

When it’s time to recharge the battery, camping onsite is your ticket to the full Splendour 2020 experience and we have a variety of options available. The camping area closest to the event site is vehicle free but you can camp with your wheels in other areas. For the time being you only need to purchase your event and camping ticket. You’ll be able to choose where you want to park your rig when vehicle passes go on sale.

Onsite camping is available for up to 5 nights, with early entry into the campgrounds available from Wednesday 22 July, so bunk in for an easy and affordable way to experience Splendour. Travelling from afar and not keen to lug your tent? Pack light and book yourself into Flash Camp, Tent City or Byron Bay Camping Hire. Bringing the kids? The Meadow, our family friendly campground is the place for you!

Like last year, Splendour will again be offering ticket buyers the option to purchase on a payment plan. Please be sure to read the terms and conditions before you purchase.

FUNDRAISING FOR WIRES

Australia’s native fauna has been under enormous pressure in recent times with unprecedented bush fires followed by flooding in many areas of the east coast. To help with their recovery, Splendour will be announcing a suite of fundraising initiatives to roll out across the coming months. Stay tuned for info about how you can bid on some amazing money can’t buy experiences like your own backstage dressing room and special VIP access tickets. In the first instance, patrons will have the option to donate when purchasing their Splendour 2020 ticket. All funds raised will be donated to WIRES.

TRANSPORT & VEHICLE PASSES
Shuttle services will run between surrounding locations including Byron Bay, Brunswick Heads, Kingscliff and North Byron Parklands. 
To manage traffic and create a greener event, we will again be implementing a vehicle pass system that will encourage carpooling for campers and day parking on site. There is no pick up and drop off at the event. Please sign up to our newsletter and stay tuned to our website for more details.
