SPOON new album Hot Thoughts out now! Sydney & Melbourne shows + in-stores next week!

Praise for Spoon – Hot Thoughts

“Another great album from a totally fearless band.”  The West Australian, ★★★★☆

“…disco guitar hooks, galloping bass, spiky synths and hip-swinging, pounding rhythms that suck you into Spoon’s new record Hot Thoughts…” – The Daily Telegraph

“A new Spoon album is like a box of chocolates – you never know what you’re gonna get, but you’re guaranteed something delicious.” – The Brag, ★★★★

“Their ninth studio album, Hot Thoughts, signals another shift of style from the Austin band, with funkier, groove-laden foundations than its predecessor.” – The Australian

“Spoon have never shied away from high quality songwriting, and album number nine is no exception… there is an indiscernible drive that keeps Hot Thoughts ticking along at a not-too-fast-but-not-too-slow pace; nothing sounds contrived, it’s as if every song was meant to be as and where it is.” – The Music, ★★★★

“…it’s absolutely remarkable that, nine albums deep into their career, Spoon are still capable of something like this…they’re a truly remarkable beast.” – Stereogum

“Another knockout… incapable of releasing a bad record.” – New York Magazine

“Nearly 25 years in, his group has made maybe their best record yet.” – Rolling Stone

Hot Thoughts, the new album from Spoon, is released today Friday 17th March via Matador / RemoteControl Records. Produced by Spoon and Dave Fridmann, they have created the bravest, most sonically inventive work of their illustrious career. Within the space of 10 captivating songs, Hot Thoughts confirms why Spoon are one of the most critically acclaimed acts of the first decade of the new millennium.

Last week, Spoon announced two intimate stripped down in-store appearances to precede their shows in Sydney and Melbourne next week. The band will appear at Redeye Records in Sydney on Wednesday 22nd March, and at Polyester Records in Melbourne on Friday 24th March on the eve of their respective shows at The Metro Theatre and The Croxton Bandroom.

The in-store appearances by Britt Daniel and Alex Fischel will grant select audiences a rare glimpse of Spoon’s new record Hot Thoughts at its most immediate and stripped back, marking very special performances for Australian fans and newcomers. Spoon are no strangers to our shores however, frontman Britt Daniel actually laid down the foundations for their new record in Collingwood, Melbourne.

I love going down to Australia, but it seems we’re never able to stay for long, so I rented a house in Collingwood outside Melbourne for three weeks. That’s where most of the songs on the new record got their start. I brought a bunch of unfinished songs with me. When I got down there, I was more excited about coming up with all new stuff. I’m not sure if it’s just the AC/DC connection or what. Australia just seems like this other world. It’s like this weird combination of Texas and England.” – Britt Daniel, American Way Magazine, March 2017

Spoon recently performed ‘Hot Thoughts’ on Jimmy Kimmel and ‘I Ain’t The One’ on The Late Show with James Corden. The band have just finished up a three day residency at SXSW taking over The Main and will return to Australia next week for shows and in-store appearances in Sydney and Melbourne. Full details below.

Spoon are: singer/guitarist Britt Daniel, drummer Jim Eno, bassist Rob Pope and Alex Fischel on keyboards and guitar.
