After making their live debut with a handful of sold-out shows in Melbourne earlier this year, Springtime announce their self-titled debut Springtime out November 5th, 2021 via TFS Records and Joyful Noise Recordings.
Kicking off with lead single ‘Will To Power’ alongside a Matt McGuigan-directed clip.
“The human race as a whole just can’t seem to do nothing. They have to do more, more, more. Why can’t they just lounge about like lizards or kangaroos? What’s wrong with that? Look at rocks, they exist. Job done, game over. No need to do or be anything more. And why does the universe exist? For something so fundamentally elegant and simple it sure is overcooked. You want simplicity and elegance? How about just not existing at all. Why the need to be anything? it’s so needless. Will To Power is just a disco jam about all that,” said Gareth.
Springtime is the culmination of three renowned, multidisciplinary musicians each known for distinct styles and sounds—a new endeavour that is as much a tonal experiment as it is a meditation on modern-day absurdity. Their self-titled debut combines elements of art-rock, experimental noise, poignant lyricism, free jazz and improvisation to craft austere portraits of a world paralyzed by shellshock.
Several of Springtime’s songs were made in collaboration between the band and Liddiard’s uncle, Ian Duhig, a world-renowned poet who has twice won The National Poetry Competition (in 1987 and 2000), the UK’s most prestigious poetry award. Duhig’s poems laid the groundwork for the songs “Viaduct Love Suicide” and “Jeanie In A Bottle” (the latter featuring vocals from The Drones & Tropical Fuck Storm’s Fiona Kitschin), which were later crafted into sprawling songs led by Liddiard’s wild-eyed vocals and guitar work as White and Abrahams lay down stuttering strings, fizzling electronics, and feathery piano melodies. Later, on the album’s penultimate track, we hear a cover of Will Oldham’s “West Palm Beach” that was recorded live, treated with love and respect, and would certainly be met with open arms by the author.
Springtime teased news of the album earlier this year with the release of standalone live track ‘Penumbra’, which was recorded at Brunswick Ballroom Melbourne, Australia on the 13th of May 2021, their second live show ever, and garnered the attention from publications like NME, Cyclic Defrost, Post-Trash, & Beat, among others.
Gareth Liddiard (The Drones, Tropical Fuck Storm), Jim White (Xylouris White, Dirty Three, PJ Harvey) and Chris Abrahams (The Necks) are Springtime.

WILL TO POWER
All that crawls or walks tall
Can only be in thrall of it’s own
Will to power
Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord
There ain’t never a dull moment with a
Will to power
Stoned apes, stone tapes
It’s only the beginning of a
Will to power
Smile, smile, smile, smile
And all will be reviled, it’s the
Will to power
Please, please, please, please
Spare me the sermon and the
Will to power
Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord
There ain’t never a dull moment with a
Will to power
Con men, con jobs, moralisers, modern saviours, agonisers
Snake oil pundits, mass psychosis, ism schism, hocus pocus
Caped crusaders, space invaders, narco subs, wayfaring strangers and the
Soothe sayers, rumours, blowhard tell-tales, deadbeat hell-spawn riding coat tails
Will to power
All that crawls or walks tall
Can only be in thrall of it’s own
Will to power
Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord
There ain’t never a dull moment with a
Will to power
Stoned apes, stone tapes
It’s only the beginning of a
Will to power
Please, please, please, please
Spare me the sermon and the
Will to power
Pentagon, captagon, privatised war
Immunity, impunity, the Whole Of The Law
Trapdoors, quicksand, snowballs in hell
Once the laughter dies down it’s every man for himself
Will to power

AMNPLIFY – SW
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
