ZELIE is one of the most striking artist to emerge from the Australian music scene, and now with the release of her official video for her debut single, “Higher” she is set to reach her zenith well before her time.
A pop song charged with empowerment, “Higher” was written from a gravitation towards the murky colours of her mind and unappealing relationships. Teaming up with Sydney-based director Chloe de Brito (Lupa J, CXLOE), ZELIE had strong visions for her video, and even enlisted her fashion designer parents to create the stunning dresses she dons throughout.
“I really wanted to create a visual for ’Higher’ , something that portrayed the shift from dark energy to light,” tells Zelie. “In early stages back when ‘Higher’ was made, I envisioned crystals, something magical , a spiritual awakening of sort. When people watch ‘Higher’, I hope that it reminds them that there is no light without knowing darkness. ‘Higher’ for me is a reminder that balance is key. Dark and light exist together and we are always in reach of whichever side we choose to focus on.”

“Chloe has a prolific mind, always brainstorming and coming up with innovative ideas. Personally, I think art direction is one of the most important aspects of a music video. Chloe and her team really captured the concept and story behind the lyrics and overall feel for ‘Higher’. I would say the whole lead up to the release of the video was truly one the best experiences of my life!
Talent runs in the family for ZELIE who enlisted the help of her parents to complete the styling of the clip. “Let’s not forget Max Inanli & Dawn Inanli from House On Fire (HOF). My dad, Max, is a highly imaginative Head Designer for HOF and he designed and created beautiful, bespoke costumes for ‘Higher’. I’m so impressed by his work, his level of design. His craftsmanship is mind-bending!”
Of the video, director Chloe de Brito tells “Zelie is an incredibly resilient and humble person who has overcome great adversity in the lead up to releasing her debut single. I was so inspired by her journey and the binary shift between darkness and light. This emotional journey is so beautifully captured lyrically in ‘Higher’. This notion of ascending into a higher version of self became the conceptual premise of the visuals. I wanted Zelie to appear ethereal and majestic, particularly at the bridge of the track, where she arises to this ‘mystical place’. A place where she truly realises her potential.”
With its sensual production and a vocal that is equally as powerful as it is beautiful, “Higher” is an uprising for ZELIE, with ardent flames set to line the path ahead. Teaming up with songwriter Justine Eltakchi and producer Joseph de la Hoyde, known as ZU/ZU, ZELIE knew exactly what she wanted out of her debut single.
Now having been performing for over 10 years, ZELIE is a proud member of her LGBT community and helps her partner run ‘Muso Lab’ – a music studio in Sydney’s inner-west that is known for hosting charity events and help local creatives from all walks of life.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
