Queensland Music Award finalist and proud Wayilwan woman Sunny Luwe invites listeners into an intimate moment of truth with her new single ‘Letter to the Future’. This soul-stirring track is a heartfelt message for the next generation—a gentle but urgent call to take action on the climate crisis, wrapped in acoustic simplicity and deep emotional resonance.

First written in 2020 during her time as a full-time teacher, the song was completed last year with support from her husband and producer Matthew Collins (WHARVES), and it stands as one of Sunny’s most personal works to date. Originally intended as part of a future album, the growing urgency of the climate crisis prompted Sunny to release it as a standalone single.

“Around the time of Covid, I was really impressed to see the world come together to address the pandemic—and I wondered, when will we do the same thing about the climate crisis for the next generation?” Sunny shares. That reflection sparked the song’s creation—a delicate, acoustic-driven track that blends poetic lyricism with raw vulnerability. With each line, Sunny channels the weight of the moment and the hope that collective action can still make a difference.

The production by Matthew Collins adds gentle precision, highlighting the space and softness of the song while letting Sunny’s evocative vocals take center stage. ‘Letter to the Future’ doesn’t shout—it asks, it pleads, and it reminds.

Accompanying the single is a commitment to climate-conscious music-making. Sunny has offset the carbon emissions from the creation and promotion of this release through the Gondwana Rainforest Trust, and has created a how-to guide to help fellow musicians do the same. Selected this year as Green Music Australia’s inaugural Board Observer, Sunny is not only writing about the climate crisis—she’s modelling real, tangible solutions for the music industry.

“Carbon offsetting this project is something I am very passionate about—I dream of living in a world where how we care for the environment is at the forefront of each project and endeavour. I also realised that I can step into my own power and be that change by offsetting my single and educating people about it through the release,” she says.

The single also marks another milestone in Sunny’s growing impact. Known for her magnetic stage presence, stunning vocal range, and genre-blending soul pop style, Sunny Luwe has graced stages at BIGSOUND, St Kilda Festival, First Peoples First, and Creekfest, and supported ARIA-winner Emily Wurramara on the NARA album tour. Her debut album ‘Flowers In The Sky’ earned her support from streaming platform playlists and features from some of Australia’s biggest media outlets.

With ‘Letter to the Future’, Sunny Luwe isn’t just releasing a song—she’s offering a reflection, a call to action, and a guide forward. Take a moment to pause, listen, and commit—‘Letter to the Future’ is out now.
