Today, Supahoney unveiled their new album ‘Wishing In A Fishbowl.’ The album’s release caps a remarkable few months for the band. The band’s last single ‘Wishing In A Fishbowl’ debuted to critical acclaim by fans, with numerous outreaches complimenting the musical and lyrical artistry performed on the track. Inspired by the travels each band member had in and out of Australia, ‘Wishing In A Fishbowl’ represents the intense feelings of where we belong to, putting questions into exploratory movements, touching everything from indie Britpop to mathematic Midwest emo.

Their upcoming album features recent hard-hitting singles ‘Foreigner,’ ‘Steve,’ ‘Wishing In A Fishbowl,’ and ‘I Wish’ which are complemented by the album’s expansive non-single tracks where the band really spread their musical wings. There is an experimental hybrid of contemporary minimalism, and electronica on ‘Flieger,’ a  polyrhythmic puzzle of big beat rhythms on ‘Bunyip,’ a fusion of alt-country and math-rock on ‘Tumble’ and the cathartic-penultimate conclusion of the sweeping, multi-textured album-ender ‘Kogarah.’

New single ‘I Wish’ is the bleeding heart of Wishing In A Fishbowl. The song features string players Jenny McCullagh, Lily Innis and Aidan Filshie, a talented string trio specializing in classical music theory who contribute to the emotional deep cut of the album. Singer Dylan Wallace recalls: “We were very lucky to have a trio of string players perform on I Wish. I met Jenny [McCullagh] from the Sydney band ‘I Know Leopard’ who helped recruit Aidan Filshie and Lily Innis who,  together,  did an outstanding job. We recorded them at the Old School Building at The University of Sydney and the sounds they were able to get out of the century-old building felt illegal for us. It feels like we’re only getting started with this sort of stuff.”

The crew have channelled every drop of emotion into Supahoney’s most personal project to date. For the band, which features multi-instrumentalists Dylan Wallace (vocals, guitar), Ben Lopes (guitar), Ciaran Heraghty (drums) and Declan Heraghty (bass), the decision to rent a Midnight Oil’s Jim Moginie’s Oceanic Studios old warehouse space in Brookvale, Sydney and self-produce the record was absolutely vital.

The record also subtly pays tribute to each member’s family heritage, a theme the album abides closely by to retain its sense of time, self, and place between all band members. Home ground holds true though, with many of the album’s pillars standing strong on Australia’s old and current culture. Guest session musicians Jenny McCullagh, Aidan Filshie, Lilly Innis, Maddy Briggs, Isobel Archer, Saskia Shearer and Nicholas Bakopoulos-Cooke all provide a communal effort to the project, ensuring sparse cultural diversity among numerous tracks. Supahoney have also collaborated with four-time ARIA-winning producer and engineer Wayne Connelly for this album, who worked with You Am I, Youth Group and many more.

Wishing In A Fishbowl is available to listen to here. Collectors and hardcore fans can grab a limited-edition vinyl package of the album online, with personalised signed sleeves from key indie stores.
