Today Melbourne’s Suzi shares winning new track ‘It’s Not A Competition’ featuring indie emo rock outfit Sly Withers. Rebounding from heartbreak into the arms of a cathartic emo anthem, Suzi and Sam Blitvich of Sly Withers trade verses, finding strength in their choices. Amidst a driving bass line and punchy guitars they ascertain ‘It’s Not A Competition’ before joining together to clarify that if it was they’d be winning.
Spending March on the road together, with Suzi supporting Sly Withers on their national acoustic tour, the opportunity to meet up in the studio before their August run with Tigers Jaw was the perfect reunion. Adding to the tradition of duets in the indie emo rock canon ‘It’s Not A Competition’ delves deep into the psyche surrounding being freshly independent and trying to find your feet, and yourself, alone.
Of the track Suzi says “I am such a huge fan of Sly Withers and they have had such a huge impact on me as an artist discovering my sound. Having Sam on this track is a dream come true and really emphasises the strength of the community within the indie emo scene.”
Recorded at Wrangler Studios with producer Dean Telefeson and mixed by Anton Hagop the song has acted as a lightning rod of collaboration between the Australian music scene, solidifying Suzi’s sound and her new-found confidence. Co-written with Suzi’s longtime live guitarist Nick Keogh, the song features an all-star cast of collaborators including Braiden Mann (Loser) on drums and Nancie Schipper on backing vocals, who add to the mammoth sound of the track.
Following the release of her second EP I Hope You Can Hear Me Now in February this year Suzi played to sold out crowds across the country on a national headline tour. Since then she’s supported Sly Withers, The Hard Aches, Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers and Mom Jeans on shows around Australia and been featured in the likes of NME, Australian Guitar Magazine and triple j. This August sees her joining American rock band Tigers Jaw on their co-headline tour with Sly Withers before she heads up to Brisbane to showcase at BIGSOUND in September, full tour dates are below.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
