Sydney, NSW – Thursday, December 8: Today, futurist conference and festival, South by Southwest (SXSW) Sydney™ announces an open invitation to the SXSW® community to participate in its inaugural 2023 event via its session proposal platform, SXSW Sydney™ Session Select. An event dedicated to connecting, empowering and spotlighting creative communities across the Asia-Pacific region, SXSW Sydney™ today also announces world-class local innovators, University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and Young Henrys, as its first partners.

Expanding for the first time from North America to a new home in Sydney, Australia, SXSW Sydney™ will see the Asia-Pacific’s pre-eminent creative industries converge across content pillars of Tech and Innovation, Gaming, Music, Screen and Culture within a future-focused program running from Sunday, October 15 to Sunday, October 22, 2023.

SXSW Sydney™ is spearheaded by the SXSW Sydney™ Conference, which will feature more than 200 presentations, panels, workshops and mentor sessions. Via Session Select, SXSW Sydney™ will collaborate with creative professionals, experts and inspired thinkers from around the world to identify the most innovative new ideas to champion at the core of its 2023 conference programming. From thought-provoking panels surrounding Climate Change, the Metaverse, mind-bending technologies, groundbreaking research and more, to future-facing ideas presented by the budding visionaries behind them, SXSW Sydney™ Session Select will give voice to the full spectrum of the Asia-Pacific region’s creative communities.

SXSW Sydney™ encourages individuals from around the world to submit their proposal for a solo presentation, panel, workshop or meet-up via Session Select on the SXSW Sydney™ website before submissions close on February 14, 2023 at 11:59pm AEDT. For those wishing to input outside of a proposal, the Speaker Suggestions section of the Session Select platform will hear suggestions for who they’d love to see on the conference line-up.

Submit your proposal now via the Session Select platform HERE.

When submissions close, SXSW Sydney™ will once again collaborate with the creative community, with participants voting for what they want to see at the inaugural event. Voting results, alongside input and advice from SXSW Sydney™’s independent industry advisory boards and official programming teams, will determine the final content line-up for the 2023 conference.

Further to the Conference programming, applications to participate at SXSW Sydney™ Music Festival and SXSW Sydney™ Screen Festival will open on January 18, 2023.

Today, SXSW Sydney™ also announces partnerships with two future-focused organisations from Australia’s creative communities, unveiling Sydney-based university, UTS as the event’s education partner, and independent brewers and distillers Young Henrys as SXSW Sydney™ Music Festival major sponsor.

Established formally in 1988, UTS has dedicated its lifetime to inspiring the next generation of innovators and future thinkers. UTS’ partnership will see SXSW Sydney™ panels, workshops, and activations pop up throughout the campus, while UTS’ talented staff, students and alumni will collaborate with SXSW Sydney™ on the conference programming and events.

Of the partnership, Professor Andrew Parfitt, Vice-Chancellor and President at UTS says: “Technology, creativity, and innovation are synonymous with both SXSW and UTS, and it’s fitting that this partnership has been founded in Sydney’s Tech Central precinct. We’re excited to be a part of such a renowned global festival and look forward to the opportunity to showcase our campus, our community, and our shared vision to promote positive change in our world. This is a particularly exciting opportunity for UTS students to garner industry experience through work and internship placements with SXSW Sydney, and I look forward to seeing the result of this exceptional collaboration.”

Young Henrys have been lifetime supporters of music and culture in Sydney through their future-focused, community driven, innovative spirit and sustainable approach. As Music Festival major sponsor, their events expertise, adored hospitality and rock ‘n’ roll outlook will ignite music performance programs across Sydney next October.
