WHAT IS IT
With Frost’s critically acclaimed 2017 LP The Centre Cannot Hold as a departure point, Widening Gyre combines the unique studio approach of the album into a new live performance concept: a powerful and highly volatile multi-point sound environment performed in the round. Created as part of a residency at ZKM Karlsruhe, Widening Gyre sees Frost dive deep into the physicality of spatialisation. Synthesis, analogue tape and live guitars are all fed in real-time through an array of digital objects which relentlessly push and pull against one another in a new kaleidoscope of sonic ecology.
.
DISTINCTIVE FEATURES
The performance creates a sound environment in the round, with the audience surrounding the stage inside a circle of speakers
Frost’s style has been compared to ambient music artist Brian Eno, who mentored him for a year

ARTIST INFORMATION
Ben Frost is an Australian composer and producer, now based in Iceland. Frost composes minimalist, instrumental and experimental music, with influences ranging from classical minimalism to punk rock and black metal.
A member of the Icelandic music collective and label Bedroom Community, he was selected to be mentored for a year by Brian Eno as part of the Rolex Mentors & Protégés Initiative in 2010. Along with his album releases, Frost has also written music for dance and theatre performances, co-produced a video-game soundtrack and scored a film and TV series. Most recently he provided the soundtrack to acclaimed Netflix’s German-language supernatural thriller Dark.
Frost’s latest release, The Centre Cannot Hold was produced by revered American sound engineer Steve Albini. Recorded in Chicago over ten days, the album “unleashes volleys of brutalizing electronic sound as an allegory for the grim state of the world” (Pitchfork).

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
