Perth-based multidisciplinary artist, Ta-ku (Regan Matthews) today returns with his first new music in 2 years, a downtempo take on alt-pop sensation BENEE’s 2019 hit “Glitter”.
Masterfully reworking the energetic pop bop with his signature mellowed out touch, the immersive cover takes on a sombre new meaning, reminiscing on moments of connection and the desire to “stick together like glitter”. As suggested by the title, the original gleaming and sun-drenched track speaks to our adolescent desires, as BENEE simply asks for someone to hang out with her. Ta-Ku slows down the pace of BENEE’s light-hearted lyrical quirks, emphasising lines like “maybe you should stay here with me”, to reflect on our mutual fervour for togetherness beyond self-isolation. Arriving alongside the release is a perfectly paired with a nostalgic visual. With creative direction from Ta-ku, his creative agency Pretty Soon and Matthew Lawless, “Glitter” pulses between moments in time to evoke the extraordinary highs experienced in the most simple times.
Ta-ku on the cover: “I’ve always been a big fan of BENEE and her song ‘Glitter’ in particular. I was listening to it one day – and just as the world started changing due to the pandemic, the lyrics took on a new meaning to me inside my head. The thought of sticking together (like glitter) became more than just a catchy hook. It became something that I felt we needed more than we know moving forward to the somewhat unknown. Almost a regretful tone to how we sometimes might wish we didn’t take those moments of togetherness for granted. Social contact and seeing someone’s smile in real life is highly underrated.”

An avid collaborator, producer, visual artist and photographer, Ta-ku has released multiple EPs, visual projects and held various photography residencies around the world. After building a cult music following across the last decade, he is now one of Australia’s most sought-after beatmakers, with his distinct and emotively-rich style of production picking up millions of streams and fans from around the globe. Following the release of his highly acclaimed Songs To Break Up To, and sequel Songs To Make Up To, Ta-ku teamed up with Wafia on (m)edian, which saw them take the collaboration to the likes oftriple j’s Like A Version and NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert. The Red Bull Music Academy alumni and now Creative Director of creative studio, Pretty Soon, has also taken his passion for photography global, showcasing his 823 exhibition in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Auckland and Tokyo.
Returning today with another beautifully crafted track to add to his prolific catalogue, the emotionally-charged rework of “Glitter” reveals another layer of Matthews’ creative depths, recalibrating our mindset of what fundamentally matters to us most.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
