Take That have released their highly anticipated new album This Life. The brand-new record is the band’s ninth studio album and their first since 2017’s Wonderland.
This Life is a vibrant body of work that sees the band at their most confident musically. With nods to Hall & Oates, Supertramp, Wings, Elton John, The Eagles, Crosby, Stills and Nash, the album sees Gary, Mark and Howard focus on vocals, with beautiful melodies, soaring choruses and sophisticated harmonies blending the trio’s voices seamlessly together.
This Life marks the start of Take That’s brave third chapter and has an undeniable sense of warmth coming from the excitement that the three friends felt being back in the studio together again. “It was about that feeling of getting back together as a band, and heading back out into the world again,” explains Gary, with Howard adding: “It has that feeling of spreading your wings, letting out the old and bringing in the new.”
“There’s a sense of togetherness with this record, whether that’s us coming back together as a band or people wanting connection in their own lives,” says Mark. It’s the perfect introduction to a record that sees Take That evolve once more, without ever losing what makes them so special.
Recording started early this year at Nashville’s Historic RCA Studios A with 9-time Grammy winner Dave Cobb (Lady Gaga, Barry Gibb, Brandi Carlisle) and ended in New York, via Savannah, Los Angeles, London and Barcelona with Jennifer Decilveo (Hozier, Miley Cyrus) also on production duties.
“This Life is a real celebration of the three of us,” says Gary, with each member bringing confident and considered ideas to the table. “A lot of this record is about being supported and feeling more confident in, amongst and around each other” he continues.
Windows, the first song to be released from the album, hinted at the musicality of the new record and what was to come from the trio. “It sounded beautiful, fresh and exciting, similar to ‘Patience’, it just seemed like a great track to come back with,” says Mark. With soaring harmonies intertwining seamlessly, the song tells the story of emerging from the darkness into the light, creating a tapestry of sound that lifts the spirit.

Title track This Life sees the band contemplate the twists, turns and adventures of living, paired alongside a vibrant, lively, piano-led melody, written after Gary’s son graduated university. “That’s when it really hit us that he wasn’t a kid any longer!” Leaning into that, March Of The Hopeful is about ever-shifting relationships while One More Word was written with Howard imagining giving his daughter away on her wedding day.
As jubilant as This Life is, it’s also flecked with moments of loss. “The Champion is to do with ageing, things we’ve been through mentally and the various ups and downs that come with being a human being on this planet,” says Owen. For a band 30+ years into their career, Take That are not standing still; constantly evolving, the future looks bright for the trio.
The band recently performed an intimate gig for Radio 2 In Concert, spoke to Dermot O’Leary for BBC Two’s Reel Stories and appeared on Later…with Jools Holland for the first time ever. They’ll headline Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball on Sunday 10th December, alongside Alicia Keys, Tom Grennan, Becky Hill, Busted and more.
They also released Take That: This Life, a brand new six part podcast which lifts the lid on the band’s musical journey from the 90s until now, as remembered by the three people at the heart of it all. Episodes are available to listen on Global Player and other podcast platforms HERE.
In 2024, the band are set to hit the road as as they head out on tour with This Life On Tour, which encompasses 41 dates across 15 cities in the UK and Ireland with very special guest Olly Murs; and This Life Under the Stars, a string of outdoor dates across Europe from June to July 2024.
Take That are renowned for their huge productions and incredible live shows, and currently hold the record for the most performances at London’s The O2 with 34 headline shows. 2011’s Progress tour broke box office records by selling over 1 million tickets in less than 24 hours, becoming the biggest tour in the UK and earning them a place on Billboard’s annual ‘Top 25 Tours’ list, placing third worldwide. In 2019, the band celebrated their 30th anniversary with the 38 date sell-out Odyssey tour which saw them play to 29 arenas and 9 stadiums, selling over 650,000 tickets.

About TAKE THAT
Formed as a five-piece in 1989, Take That enjoyed immediate success with their first two albums charting at Number 2 and Number 1 respectively. Third album Nobody Else confirmed their global domination, selling over six million copies and topping the charts in 11 countries. The departure of band member Robbie Williams prompted a break-up in 1996 and nine years in the wilderness before the remaining four members reunited for 2005’s The Ultimate Tour. This sparked one of the greatest comebacks in British music history with Take That going on to release three Number 1 albums in just four years. Robbie’s return for 2011’s Progress saw them break UK records for the fastest-selling album of the 21st century and fastest-selling tour of all time. Williams’ second departure, along with that of Jason Orange, left the remaining three members to release III and 2017’s Wonderland, which were certified platinum and gold respectively.
The band celebrated their 30th anniversary with the release of Odyssey in 2018, a greatest hits album of beautifully re-imagined versions of some of the biggest tracks from their three-decade-spanning career. The album entered the charts at Number 1 and was closely followed by a critically acclaimed UK and European stadium and arena tour in 2019.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
