After reuniting earlier this year with their first single in almost two decades, Teenager – the collaborative project of Nick Littlemore (PNAU, Empire of the Sun) and Pip Brown (Ladyhawke) – are back with ‘Sail The Seas’, the second single from their highly anticipated new body of work, Fourteen, due later this year.

‘Sail The Seas’ takes listeners on a kaleidoscopic groove-laden voyage across genres in a wave of pure indie-dance energy. It’s a song that feels like floating through a vivid, sun-drenched dream, propelled by emotion, curiosity and a sense of wonder, wrapped in undeniably catchy, upbeat production.

Ladyhawke explains “Nick came over and we pretty much wrote Sail The Seas in a day. We were writing it for an ad or something and then we loved the song so much it ended up becoming a Teenager song, which I’m very, very glad about. We wanted to write something really fun and hooky, which was almost like a chanting kid’s melody, but with our Teenager take on it.”

Teenager was formed in 2004 by Nick Littlemore (PNAU and Empire of the Sun) and featured the then emerging talent of Kiwi, Pip Brown, who later became known globally as Ladyhawke.

The band released their debut album, Thirteen, in 2006, which was characterised by a blend of danceable beats and punk rock influences. Recorded across studios in Sydney, London, New York, Paris and Los Angeles, the album featured hits like ‘Pony’ and ‘Bound and Gagged’, which showcased their unique and energetic style. Partly due to Nick Littlemore’s DIY ethos as well as its collaborators from Sonic Youth, Van She, Luke Steele, The Birthday Party and The Presets, the album found cult status in the UK, US and Australia.

Despite their promising start, the band was short-lived by their own preeminent success. By 2007, Pip Brown was focussed on her solo career as Ladyhawke, releasing her debut self-titled album in 2008, boasting synth and electro-pop classic gems like ‘My Delirium’ & ‘Paris Is Burning’. Similarly, Nick Littlemore returned to his work with PNAU, and soon after formed Empire of the Sun with Luke Steele, through which his distinctive artistic vision produced globally renowned genre-defying songs like Empire of the Sun’s ‘Walking On A Dream’, ‘We Are The People’ and ‘Alive’ as well as PNAU’s ‘Go Bang’, Elton John & Dua Lipa’s ‘Cold Heart’ (PNAU remix) and Troye Sivan’s ‘You Know What I Need’.

Amidst this creative outpouring, the bond between the pair never waned and they continued to collaborate, writing and recording songs between projects and at times from opposite sides of the world, meaning that this long-awaited new collection of songs is almost two decades in the making.

However, Teenager are not simply picking up where they left off – they’re charting an entirely new course through a dream-like blend of euphoric synths and pulsing basslines with a serve of punk rock attitude, as they release a string of new singles in the lead up to Fourteen, kicking off with the undeniably catchy songs ‘A.A.’ and ‘Sail The Seas’.
