When it comes to Australian rock royalty, it’s hard to look past Tex Perkins. Tex has mapped out the scene for future generations, leaving his mark on pub-rock, folk, country and blues, all while creating his own Australian blend and signature style. Accompanied by only the finest guitarists and musicians, Tex has written and toured with greats, like Don Walker and Charlie Owen, and played at the homes of Australian rock like Bluesfest and The Gympie Muster.

Now, joining forces with long-time collaborator Matt Walker whilst under the spell of Link Wray’s country-funk, the first Fat Rubber Band album has come to life. Those who have been to the shows will be familiar with the twangs and distortion – or the fire and brimstone as they like to call it – while for those who have been following the journey from the beginning, this is just another part of the Tex evolution.

To warm up our ears, Tex Perkins & The Fat Rubber Band are releasing a double-sided single, featuring two renditions of songs that shaped the upcoming album – Allen Toussaint’s “Everything I Do Gonna Be Funky” and Bobby Charles’ “I Must Be in a Good Place Now”.

“Everything I Do Gonna Be Funky (from now on)” will be available everywhere Friday, May 21.

BIOS:

TEX PERKINS

Tex Perkins is a man whose career has taken in everything, from the ground-breaking experimental ‘punktonica’ of Sydney mid-80s noiseniks Thug to the lilting, dark country of his recent material with the Dark Horses.

He was at the forefront of hard edged pub rock with the Beasts Of Bourbon, before serving us the evocative soundscapes of The Cruel Sea, whose extraordinary 1991 single ‘This Is Not The Way Home’ placed Perkins’ world-weary growl in a new musical context and heralded the emergence of an entirely original yet archetypically Australian sound.

Then there’s the Tex, Don & Charlie albums, which saw Perkins joining forces with the legendary Don Walker, Cold Chisel’s pianist and master songwriter and son of the Clarence Valley, and Charlie Owen, previously Australia’s best kept musical secret. With appearances on Rockwiz and at major festivals, Tex has become a pivotal figure in the history of Australian rock.

MATT WALKER

Matt Walker is one of the most respected musicians on the Australian scene. His work as a songwriter, guitarist, producer and composer is credited on many classic albums, films and documentary scores, and among his peers he enjoys the status of a true cult legend.

He has toured with the elite, names such as Bob Dylan, Patti Smith, Nick Cave, The Black Keys and Joe Cocker, and written with an eclectic bunch of artists including Broderick Smith, Mick Harvey, Midnight Oil’s Rob Hirst and Jim Mogine, Archie Roach, Tex Perkins, Kim Salmon… the list goes on.

And while he’s made his name collaborating with the finest, Matt’s personal projects have reached standards just as high, boasting the 2000 ARIA award for “Best Blues and Roots Album” for his album “Soul Witness” with Ashley Davies. It’s safe to say the industry looks upon Matt Walker fondly.
