ABOUT MICHAEL K.

Kristin Michael Robinson, Michael K., is a 20-year-old music student at USC’s Thornton School of Music. Originally from Fort Worth, TX, she started to perform her music during high school. Due to a lack of opportunities for young musicians in Fort Worth, she created a benefit concert series called Music for Mental Health (benefits suicide prevention and free counseling services in her hometown) to allow a space for high school musicians to showcase their talents.

Now, as a college student, she studies Music Industry and songwriting. She has continued to plan events in Los Angeles, aiming to highlight rising young talent in music and in visual art. She also currently works for Live Nation and writes for their Ones to Watch blog.

Michael K.’s biggest influences are Radiohead, James Blake, King Krule, Daniel Caesar, Bon Iver, and St. Vincent.

ABOUT “DORIAN GRAY”

This song, Dorian Gray, is inspired by the novel by Oscar Wilde: The Picture of Dorian Gray. Focused on the main theme of the book, appearance vs. reality, Michael K. describes a relationship gone horribly wrong, comparing her lover to Dorian Gray. Although her partner seems beautiful and perfect on the outside, on the inside her lover is not at all who he appears to be. The song is a reflection on whether or not the man she loved even existed or if her love was valid at all.
