“The first time I heard The Bamboos it was particularly inspiring to see and hear folks going for this rough and tough sound around the globe. Inspiring enough that I decided I wanted to try my hand at this fun and foolishness!” TERRY COLE (COLEMINE RECORDS)
“The quality control has never dipped over the course of their quarter century of activity and it seems a safe bet to say it never will.” GREG CAZ NYC (WAX POETICS)
“The Bamboos are bad mother#%@er’s!” SYL JOHNSON (CHICAGO R&B/SOUL LEGEND)
“When The Bamboos launched onto the scene, I remember what a breath of fresh air they were. What some may have viewed as a musical curiosity has turned into a quarter of a century long career.” RICHARD KINGSMILL (TRIPLE J)
“Cream always rises to the top and an outfit of this quality were always destined for great things. I would like to thank The Bamboos for all their work and the fact they have kept flying the flag for Funk and Soul for their 25 years as without them out this scene would be so much poorer.” CRAIG CHARLES (THE CRAIG CHARLES FUNK AND SOUL SHOW/BBC 6MUSIC)

2025 marks 25 years since the formation of Melbourne Funk & Soul trailblazers The Bamboos. And to celebrate they are releasing a deluxe compilation and heading out for some of their biggest Australian shows to date with an expanded on-stage line up.
One of Australia’s most exciting new labels, Impressed Recordings, are marking this milestone by releasing the deluxe compilation The Bamboos Best on gatefold gold marble 2LP and CD on July 25th. It’s a fittingly definitive collection of one of Australia’s most celebrated, influential and enduring Soul & Funk acts, tracing the history of the band that laid the foundation for the now internationally recognised Australian Soul scene. Its twenty songs are taken from across their twelve albums, including many that have been unavailable on vinyl since their original release, and one track appearing in the format for the very first time.
“It’s an honour to release a compilation of a simply incredible, seminal band, influential to millions around the world, and – always – funky as all hell” – Luke Bevans, Impressed Recordings Managing Director

The band are excited to be playing Sydney’s iconic City Recital Hall for the first time while their Brisbane show will be a free event at the Moorooka Block Party as part of Brisbane Festival. Special guest at the Northcote Theatre show is Kurt Rainbow, whose late ‘70s Jazz Fusion and Funk sounds deliver a high-energy, retro-futuristic wonderland. Also helping celebrate a huge night of Melbourne Soul will be DJs Chris Gill (presenter of ‘Get Down’ on 3RRR) and Miss Goldie (‘Boss Action’ on 3PBS). The celebrations will continue upstairs after the show with a free afterparty with DJs Kano and The Bamboos own Lance Ferguson!
From their raw Deep Funk origins through their own genre defying musical path, The Bamboos have reinvigorated a classic sound whilst seamlessly incorporating contemporary influences to create something altogether brand new. Managing to appeal to both Funk & Soul purists as well as casual music fans along the way, the band have always focused on what’s important: songwriting, groove and powerful vocals.
Upon forming in 2000 The Bamboos held their own against the overwhelming tide of rock music on Australian stages and became a foundation of the now world famous “Melbourne Soul Scene”. Their initial singles and albums caused ripples worldwide, and they became the first Australian act of that sound to be signed to international labels and tour Europe and the UK. Kylie Auldist joined the band in 2007 and in a short space of time they became one of the first local Funk & Soul live drawcards, establishing a reputation as one of the best live bands in the country, regardless of genre.
Along the way they have been nominated for seven ARIA Awards (including back-to-back nominations in 2022 and 2023) and five APRA Songwriting Awards. They’ve blown away audiences at festivals and venues everywhere from London to Tokyo to playing in front of 15,000 people at Womadelaide and 30,000 at A Day On The Green. The list of international and local guest vocalists that they have collaborated with is testament to the respect they garner, and include the likes of Aloe Blacc, Durand Jones, Megan Washington, Tim Rogers, Daniel Merriweather, Dan Sultan, Urthboy, Alice Russell and Joey Dosik.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
