On opening night, Melbourne Hammond funk demons Karate Boogaloo will scorch The Corner Hotel stage on August 4. Featuring members of The Cactus Channel, Mount Den, Brenda, Jnbo, Leisure Centre, Frida and Laneous, the band have caused a stir on the back of one 7” single and a fierce live reputation.

Opening at The Triffid on August 10 is Brisbane all female neo-soul four piece Pink Matter, who draw inspiration from the likes of The Internet and Hiatus Kaiyote.

Acclaimed beatmaker Godriguez, who produced Sampa The Great’s breakthrough release THE GREAT MIXTAPE, will assemble his outward-looking jazz trio Godtet to support at Oxford Art Factory show on August 11. A leading light of an emerging Sydney jazz underground, Godtet pushes the boundaries of improvised music within a framework of hip-hop, jazz, soul and psychedelia.

Adelaide’s Wanderers picked up Best Blues/Roots band at the SA Music Awards in 2017 and open proceeding at The Gov on August 18. Their latest single “Off My Back” takes their sound into the territory of beloved US blue-eyed soul acts of the ‘70s and ‘80s.

Recently invited to contribute to Myf Warhurst’s’ Middle Of The Road segment on her national ABC radio show, The Bamboos recorded a version of Sam Brown’s 1988 massive pop-soul hit, “Stop”. Taking a different tack from their trademark horn-heavy approach, bandleader Lance Ferguson decided to strip the cover back to a string quartet (arranged by Bamboos trumpeter Ross Irwin), piano backing Kylie Auldist’s one of a kind voice. The result is nothing short of stunning.
