Melbourne’s funk and soul powerhouse The Bamboos release their new album NIGHT TIME PEOPLE today. In celebration, the nine-piece are set to embark on a headline tour throughout August, their first since 2015.

Already regarded as one of the world’s premier funk-soul outfits, The Bamboos eighth studio album is shaping to be the record that brings them their greatest worldwide acclaim to date. NIGHT TIME PEOPLE brings the band’s infectious and modern take on a timeless sound to a whole new world of listeners. The record’s eleven tracks reinvigorate the familiar arrangements and grooves of early funk-soul with the depth of a contemporary songwriting style, and all sung by the powerful and distinctive vocals of Kylie Auldist.

The first taste of the album, “Lit Up”, is built upon an insanely catchy piano riff and the best use of cowbell since “Honky Tonk Women”. Mixed by the legendary Bob Clearmountain (who has worked on historic albums by the likes of Springsteen, The Rolling Stones and Bowie) the track was accompanied by a stylish, high contrast black and white video.

For follow up single “Broken”, three different MCs were asked to tell stories of resilience in the face of mental illness, each on their own version of the track. To help that message resonate internationally they were selected from different corners of the world. Atlanta based J-Live, Sydney MC Urthboy, and fast-rising Berlin MC /singer/producer Teesy. Their personal and insightful rhymes are joined by a rousing, spirit-lifting chorus from Auldist.

Millions of listeners globally are already familiar with the winning combination of the band’s guitarist and leader Lance Ferguson and vocalist Kylie Auldist, thanks to ”This Girl” by Kungs Vs. Cookin’ On 3 Burners. One of 2016’s biggest chart hits was a remix of a 2009 track by Ferguson’s former band that he co-wrote, which proved that the world was craving pop music with genuine soul. After discovering the original version of “This Girl” on Youtube, the then 19-year-old French DJ/producer, Kungs, requested to remix the track. It soon topped charts in Germany and France, sat at #2 in the UK for 5 weeks and went gold or platinum in fourteen countries. It’s the twelfth most Shazamed song of all time is now over 500 million Spotify plays and 300 million Youtube views.

2018 is proving to be a big year for the band, starting by being invited to open for Robbie Williams across Australia on his “Heavy Entertainment” tour. The international acknowledgement of NIGHT TIME PEOPLE has already begun with radio airplay in the UK, France, US, Germany and even Greece. On top of that have been glowing international reviews, including a 5/5 Album Of The Month review in soulful music bible, Blues & Soul, as well as featuring on the cover of the equally important UK monthly, Echoes. The band plan to capitalise on this attention with a UK and European tour later in the year.

The success of “This Girl” was vindication of Ferguson and Auldist’s work together, something that’s no secret to Bamboos fans worldwide, built steadily over their seven studio albums.  The years of hard work have already been well recognized at home, with five ARIA Awards nominations, and three APRA Songwriting Award nominations. After featuring guests on earlier albums like Aloe Blacc, Daniel Merriweather, and Alice Russell, Ferguson made the decision to have Auldist as the only singer on NIGHT TIME PEOPLE.

“I think when people come to a Bamboos show, or hear Kylie’s voice on record, they feel that warmth and energy”, he reflects. “She just connects with people and allows them to let go and to feel good. Kylie exudes human joy, warmth and soul”.

With plans to tour the album in August, NIGHT TIME PEOPLE declares to the world that the time for The Bamboos is now.
