The Bamboos keep the new music coming with their third single for 2020, following on from“While You Sleep” featuring Ev Jones in August, and this time they reflect on world events with the potent, hard-hitting funk track “Power Without Greed”.
This incredibly tumultuous year prompted the band to address themes of personal hardship on “Hard Up” back in May, but this time they felt the need to step back and look at the bigger picture. With possibly the most crucial political event in living memory on the horizon, it felt like just the right moment to release “Power Without Greed”.

The accompanying clip pulls no punches with a fast paced collage of sharply juxtaposed footage of wealth, power, protest, poverty, environmental impact but, like the song itself, reminds us that change is within our grasp.
Musically the tone matches the lyrical sentiment perfectly, with band leader Lance Ferguson’s insistent wah-wah guitar underpinning the lean, unstoppable forward motion of this world renowned nine-piece band. Soul queen Kylie Auldist delivers, as always, riding over rock solid drums, leading to an anthemic horn riff and the most inspiring chorus the band has recorded to date. “Power Without Greed” is beyond doubt a highlight of the band’s now twenty year long career and is again produced by Ferguson and mixed alongside John Castle (Jack River, Gretta Ray, Angie McMahon).
Also announced today is that The Bamboos are part of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s 2021 season, with two shows at the iconic Hamer Hall on March 12th and 13th. The show will feature a selection of their most beloved songs arranged to be played alongside the celebrated 50 strong orchestra as part the band’s 20th anniversary celebrations. The specially created arrangements will be by Bamboos trumpeter Ross Irwin, who has also arranged for recordings and performances for the likes of Paul Kelly, Passenger, Angus and Julia Stone, Vance Joy, Josh Pyke, Thelma Plum, The Kite String Tangle, The Paper Kites, and Tim Rogers as well as The Adelaide Symphony and The Queensland Symphony. He also arranged the 2019 ‘By Special Arrangement’ album of Bamboos orchestral reinventions and conducted the packed 2019 launch for that album at The Melbourne Recital Centre. Tickets go on sale December 8, and more info is available at the MSO site.
“Having the opportunity to perform our music on stage with the full Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at Hamer hall is really the stuff that dreams are made of”, says Ferguson. “After such a challenging 2020 in Melbourne I feel like these hometown shows are going to be cathartic for all involved and so rest assured we’ll be pulling out ALL the stops.”

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
