Their latest musical offering, an EP titled ‘Take It as It Comes’ launched earlier this month and accompanied by a mini documentary of the same name produced by Petrol Records & Universal Music Groups’ Oscar winning producer, Christopher Jenkins and directed by Grant James. The documentary will debut at the Byron Bay Film Festival on Saturday, 29 October 2022 and screened ahead of one of the most highly anticipated films of the year, Patou – the story of one of Australia’s most accomplished musical talents, Pat Powell.

When Sarah, Lachlan, and Molly Buckley, the young sibling trio out of Byron Bay, Australia, started making waves just a few years ago, nobody knew what to expect. What resulted eclipsed anything beyond even their wildest dreams.

Dubbed “Hippie Country” for their feel-good, fun-time music that doesn’t fit squarely into any box, their 2019 debut single “Daydream” shot to #1 on Australian country radio and recent single, Oops I Love You reached #5. Their debut album, Daydream, garnered rave reviews, including American Songwriter Magazine stating “…every so often, something special comes along. Something so cool and authentic that the world has no choice but to sit up and take notice. The Buckleys are that something special.”

The Buckleys will be joined at the Byron Bay Film Festival by their U.S. award winning Director, Grant James who will conduct a Q&A session with the band following the screening.  Grant James has directed numerous films and documentaries for over a decade and a half and has worked with the likes of Madonna (I Am Because We Are), Father John Misty, Pearl Jam, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic featuring Gustavo Dudamel. Grant currently directs promotional campaigns for Warner Brothers Discovery which has included promos for Ridley Scott’s HBOMax sci-fi drama, Raised by Wolves.

“‘Take It as It Comes’ is a story of a personal and artistic growth. Being able to capture The Buckleys during the recording of this EP is just a snapshot of the bands musical journey and I am excited for this short film to debut on their home Turf,” said, Grant James.

The ‘Take It as It Comes’ documentary showcases the creation of The Buckleys latest EP which was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee. The film highlights the band’s growth since its launch in 2019 and offers an insight into their close family bond as siblings and as musicians, songwriters, and creators. The documentary also promotes their strong ties and love of their Northern Rivers community and brings awareness to the devastating floods that hit the region earlier this year.

Recorded at East Iris Studios with the Grammy-winning producer/engineer Chad Carlson (Taylor Swift, Lady A, Trisha Yearwood), Take It as It Comes was tracked entirely live, meaning all the musicians played together and recorded at the same time. The musical chemistry between the team is undeniable.

The documentary is very personal to the band and is dedicated to the Chairman of Petrol Records, Chris Murphy. Chris, who originally discovered The Buckleys saw something extraordinary in the emerging young artists. With his Petrol Records and Universal Music family, Chris firmly put The Buckleys on the map before he sadly passed away in 2021.  The team continue to honour his vision and following the premiere, The Buckleys are set to embark on the next chapter of their career as they head to the U.S for their first promotional tour.

Catch The Buckleys and Grant James at the Byron Bay Film Festival on Saturday 29 October 2022.
