Mellen Events is proud to present Australia’s kings of real-good, feel-good roots pop, The Cat Empire, returning to Perth this November at the picturesque Kings Park & Botanic Garden, still riding high on the success of their most recent studio album, Stolen Diamonds.
The six musicians, originally hailing from Melbourne, began as a word-of-mouth secret, transported globally by backpackers and fast became an international touring juggernaut with legions of devotees at every stop.
Seven albums into a stellar career, Stolen Diamonds debuted at #4 on The ARIA album chart (their sixth top 10 album), at #1 on the AIR Charts, and at #3 on the global albums charts for iTunes on release day.
It would be an understatement to suggest the previous twelve months have been particularly busy for The Cat Empire. Multiple sold out tours across Europe, The Americas and of course Australia, acclaimed side projects, grant collaborations and mentoring, all while releasing a song a month from Stolen Diamonds across 2018/19 which drew ecstatic responses from fans and critics alike.
The Courier Mail in Brisbane claimed in their 4-star review of Stolen Diamonds that the sextet “still sound self-assured and diverse as ever.” Praise was not only reserved to their home country as the UK’s Daily Express joined in the praise effusing the band’s “energetic and thrilling sound.”
This year, an empire of loyal Australian fans will have the opportunity to celebrate the band’s most recent acclaimed material and revisit some of the enduring, and indeed endearing classics that have secured their status as one of the world’s most beloved live acts.
In what is sure to be a triumphant performance, The Cat Empire will prove the long-standing rumour that they headline major festivals all over the world because no band is brave enough to take the stage after them. Such is the power of their live show and world class musicianship, which sees their infectious, genre-embracing anthems sweep audiences into a dancing, singing frenzy of waving arms and smiling faces.

The Cat Empire will be joined by special guests Dan Sultan, Caravãna Sun and Grace Barbe.
Dan Sultan has been a singular musical presence in Australia since the release of his first album, 2006’s Homemade Biscuits, straddling genres and celebrating the diversity of his audiences. All the while, he’s also become one of the country’s most revered songwriters.
Now a household name, Dan Sultan has played every Australian festival under the sun, touring the Blackbird album for a mammoth two months to sold-out venues which defined ‘living the dream.’ Just months after it debuted in the top five of the ARIA Albums Chart, Sultan’s fourth album Killer was nominated for Best Rock Album and Best Independent Release at the 2017 ARIA Awards. Sultan was nominated for Best Male Artist, not for the first time.
Sydney indie-rockers Caravãna Sun launched their first album Rising Falling at Bondi’s Beach Road Hotel in 2011. The single Feel Better received significant air play on Triple J, followed by 2012’s The Bottle, released while the quartet was touring Europe.
The band went from strength to strength with 2018 being a major touring year following the release of the Silver Linings EP which featured the game changing singles Beauty & The Pain and Come Back. Currently on tour in Europe including an upcoming slot in the UK at Boardmasters with 40,000 people expected in attendance, 2019 is shaping up to be another big year, with a new single, Legend, set for release in September.
Along for the ride is special guest, Grace Barbe, a genuinely exotic world music star for the 21st century, with the talent, face and voice to match. Passionately committed to showcasing and developing the Kreol culture with which she is so deeply connected, Grace is preparing to release her new album, FANM:WOMAN in 2019.
To coincide with this latest tour, The Cat Empire have announced a new global partnership with Children’s Ground, an organisation designed with – and led by – First Nations people who are creating a different future for their children and grandchildren. Children’s Ground delivers early childhood and primary learning, health, employment, creative arts and community development, within a culturally rich environment and a 25-year vision for change. Among a number of planned activations to support the cause, The Cat Empire will be pledging $1 from every ticket they sell on their Australian tour in Oct/Nov to Children’s Ground.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
