Aussie music icons The Cat Empire had a massive 2023 as they ushered in a new era for the band with the release of their tenth studio album Where The Angels Fall, stormed stages across the globe performing to sold-out rooms and debuted at #5 on the ARIA Album Charts.
Today they’re back with another dance-floor filler; ‘La Gracia’ was inspired by trumpeter Lazaro’s first trip to Spain as a member of the band, co-written by lead singer Felix and featuring vocals by bassist Grace Barbe singing in her native Creole alongside Melbourne flamenco artists Arte Canela.

In exciting news, the band can also share this will be their first release since signing to BMG Australia – “I’ve been published with BMG for years and I really admire what their team have been able to achieve with my songwriting. With the global ambitions we have for the new music the band is working on, BMG’s records arm felt like the perfect alignment,” says Felix.
Jodie Feld, BMG Senior Creative Director Australia & New Zealand, said “We have been fans of The Cat Empire for a long time and have enjoyed working with Felix as his global publisher. We’re incredibly excited to come on board as the band’s label and to take their music to the world alongside their extensive international touring. The new music is fresh and distinct, yet retains the quintessential Cat Empire energy audiences know and love.”
Coming to life as a Cat Empire track in sessions after shows around the world, with just voices, a keyboard, a Cuban tres, and a crowd of people partying backstage, Felix says, “It became a very melodic song that we celebrated to. It’s an ode to our musical adventures and influences from a country we love touring in. It’s going to be a killer live.”
Lazaro comments, “I was completely captivated by the dynamic exchange between the incredible Spanish crowds and The Cat Empire on stage during each concert in every city. It was truly something special. What started as a small idea quickly evolved into a song shaped by the creative contributions of each band member, dedicated to a remarkable country that has shown us immense love. Thank you, Spain. Olé!”

The band have also shared the accompanying video, shot at The Aviary Recording Studio whilst recording the single and embodying the joyous and lively nature of the track.
Kicking off their massive 40-date world-wide tour with two sold-out shows in London at Electric Ballroom, they’re hitting the road across the UK, including Glastonbury Festival, Europe and North America, before heading home for a string of electrifying performances featuring their most beloved tunes and exuberant new music with Australian Symphony Orchestras in premiere venues across Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane Adelaide and Hobart. All shows in Melbourne and Sydney have officially sold-out.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
