THE COMFORT WEAR THEIR PAIN FOR THE WORLD TO HEAR ON NEW SINGLE

.

An open letter from The Comfort, to those who need to hear this most

As a society we never want to talk about anything real, we’re scared of everything.
We’re scared of people’s real emotions. We censor everything, we censor words, bodies, and ideas.

When someone completes suicide, the news says “they passed away” and they include a hotline number as an afterthought. No, they killed themselves because their pain was so bad and they had nowhere to put it, because our society is so bad at dealing with people’s pain.

I’m not having that anymore. This song is the raw, horrible emotion that myself and that a lot of other people feel. Sometimes I’m okay, but sometimes I’m not, and I experience suicidal ideation along with a lot of other people. The problem is getting worse and worse, and no one is doing anything real about it. It’s just not good enough anymore.

We’re so divided. We live in extremes, people can’t put forward ideas without getting trashed as a reflex reaction in the current climate because god forbid we have a real conversation about anything and try to look beyond the surface level emotions which are generally just fear and anger.

Almost every form of therapy revolves around acknowledging and appropriately dealing with an issue, but we seem to think as long as we avoid an issue, the pain will fix itself.

We need to have uncomfortable conversations and experience uncomfortable emotions in order to grow as individuals and as a society, so that we can help the people that need it.

This song is about suicide.
I hope it makes you uncomfortable.
There is strength in vulnerability.
There is strength is acknowledging your pain.

“I’ll die under the stars so my soul will rise with the sun…”

Much like the uncompromising vision that bleeds from the band into every aspect of their art, The Comfort know best how to talk about their music, and when it comes to a subject as unflinching as that covered in their new single Pain, no other words need to be said.

Since the release of their debut album What It Is To Be, the vision and passion for expression both in the studio and on stage has only grown within the Brisbane four piece, and this weekend sees that passion continue as they join fellow Greyscale Records family members The Beautiful Monument as they begin their journey around the country.
