Today, salty-haired lads from Sydney’s southern beaches, The Kava Kings have independently dropped single “Friends” the first release from their upcoming debut album, due out later this year. The band have also treated fans with a fun and imaginative music video for the track premiered overnight via The Music.

The mates describe the new direction they are heading in as a step away from their roots and a move towards incorporating more rock and electronic elements, and they are clearly hitting the mark in “Friends”.

Produced and mixed by Joel Quartermain (Eskimo Joe, Meg Mac), and mastered by William Bowden (Gotye, Art Vs Science, Bluejuice), the track explores the experience of growing up and the all too familiar notion of drifting apart from the ones we thought we’d always have.

The band also release a thrilling music video directed by Jack Shephard, where an unexpected friendship is made between a lovely bunch of coconuts named Joe and Natasha after being washed up on a remote island.

The Kava Kings have hauled their vans along eight Australian tours, covering both main cities and regional areas, and hitting boutique festivals, Soundscape Sydney and Wollombi Festival. Along the way, they’ve shared the stage with Aussie favourites such as Ocean Alley, WinstonSurfshirt, Lime Cordiale and The Beautiful Girls as well as international acts such as Ozomatli (USA) and The Skatalites (Jamaica).

2018 is set to be a big year for The Kava Kings as they gear up to release their debut album, and to celebrate the release of “Friends” the five-piece will be hitting the stage for an east coast tour!
