To accompany his upcoming sold out shows with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra which are a part of the inaugural Wave Festival, today The Kite String Tangle releases breathtaking single ‘The Heights of Trees’ with an accompanying video, and announces a one-off mini album The Kite String Tangle Presents: In A Desperate Moment, to be released on 13 April.

‘The Heights of Trees’ is a flawless soaring track with blissful vocals. Says Danny Harley, aka The Kite String Tangle,

“I wrote the skeleton of this song probably two years ago, possibly more. It’s one of those ones that kept coming back to me and is essentially about being frustrated by the monotony that everyday life can bring, and trying to create change, even turbulence, in your own life”.

The Kite String Tangle Presents: In a Desperate Moment was created as an outlet for Harley’s other musical side, and songs from the mini album will be performed at his two sold out shows with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra for Wave Festival later this month. Although known for his electronic prowess, he has been simultaneously writing music at a piano or guitar and has been attracted to organic music with acoustic and classic instrumentation. Says Harley

“I have many influences and I’ve never been able to stop myself from writing these sombre, fragile and vulnerable songs. I try to paint that onto an electronic canvas a lot of the time but there are many songs that just needed to be left in the organic world in which they were born. Instruments with strings and pedals and levers and sound holes and scratches and dents. Songs for broken people played with instruments that also need repairing. These songs aren’t designed for radio or for a festival or a party or anything else; they exist purely for expression and there’s something magical about that”.

The mini album includes an array of family and friends playing a range of instruments. Harley’s sisters’ string quartet played all the strings on the album, which also features saxophone, trumpet and a large amount of flugelhorn horn played by good friends. He worked with long time friend Dustin Tebbutt on their second original collaboration in track ‘Evergreen’ feat. Dustin Tebbutt, and his live drummer Kosta Theodosis successfully conquered the challenging drum parts. The album was developed over countless studio hours, and also features weird and wonderful toys, tapes, and trinkets.

Fresh off a run of shows around the country on the Wine Machine tour, today’s announcement comes ahead of a busy few weeks in the Northern Hemisphere appearing at The Great Escape, Primavera, Dot to Dot and other festivals, as well as his own headline shows in London, Amsterdam and Berlin.

It’s been a particularly busy 2017/2018 for The Kite String Tangle with the release of his debut self-titled album, two national headline tours, much-talked about sets at Splendour in the Grass and FOMO festivals amongst others, AUS/NZ support for US electronic duo Odesza, a support at the Brisbane Festival for London Grammar, and a co-headline slot on Red Deer Festival. All this came alongside the announcement of his own record label Exist. Recordings which put out well received releases from Brisbane producer Golden Vessel and sibling duo Lastlings.

The Kite String Tangle album (released via Warner Music Australia) reached #1 on the iTunes Electronic charts and made a Top 10 debut on the iTunes Album chart. The first album single ‘Selfish’ has amassed over 4 million streams and was followed by ‘The Prize’ feat. Bridgette Amofah (Rudimental) which received high rotation on national radio.
