Australian outback poetry meets country Americana to share tales in The Little Lord Street Band’s new album ‘Time and Place’. This 11-track anthology that is out today, will take you on an emotional journey. 

This long-awaited album comes from a career as appreciated as an outback hat, as The Little Lord Street Band is the three-time winner of the Best Country Act at the WAM awards, all consecutively, have stayed on the Amrap charts for weeks, has been showcased at BIGSOUND in 2018, and has drawn praise from the likes of ABC Country, Double J, Pilerats, Scenestr,  The Music, and many more over the years.

The Little Lord Street Band’s second album is a matured honey-mead, sweet and warming. The album ‘Time and Place’ is true to its name, transporting the listener by immersing them in the melancholy melodies, intricate guitar, and raw and honest vocals that weave every track together. Jimmy Rogers shares: “I guess it’s a ‘looking back’ album. It’s about when you get to that point in your life and you look back on what’s happened or what’s been going on. It’s that sort of longing for something that you can’t have back. It’s quite glass half empty, but at the same time, it’s about enjoying your memories.”

‘Can’t Go Back’, the first track perfectly sets up the tone of the album as being perfect for a leisurely drive on a Sunday morning. This sorrowful, honest ballad is full of outback charm and gentle melodies.

The second song is ‘Time and Place’ the album’s namesake, and is a wistful ode to human growth and a love letter to simpler times. Natasha Shank’s vocals glow with nostalgia and intertwine with moody guitar. ‘High Beams’ follows is a toe-tapping, square-dancing beat, where classic country and retro rock n’ roll join together to get a move on.

Then, a pause, a lullaby to whisk one away. ‘The Mess’ is a contradictory ballad of an abuser wanting to spend time with his kid. Its timeless guitar riffs lend to the Americana core of the album. Keeping up the wistful tone, ‘Chasing A Shadow, Sold On A Song’ is an indie-country ponder on youth and what it means to mature and face the journey of life head-on, with raw and honest lyrics complimenting the catchy melodies.

‘It’s Just Us’ is a double-edged sword of a song, with a catchy hook, haunting riffs, rock drums, punchy piano, and a rocking classic Latin-country-fusion guitar solo. Then, ‘Burning All Night’ is a story and a homage to Australian poetry in the form of classic blues cut with a brooding rock edge. This dark, mystical song would feel in place in a poetry textbook.

‘Could Have Been Someone’ is a delve into positive realism, with lyrics that tell you the tale of a family man and what could have been, but doesn’t lament. Instead, this song is an ode to what could be, simply embracing with its upbeat guitar that this is the way life goes. This is complemented by the themes of ‘I Am Enough’. This song is a bittersweet, indie-alt ode to self-empowerment in tough times, with repeated lyrical affirmations, meditative guitar, and vocals that channel the divine feminine.

In contrast, ‘Don’t Wait Too Long’ is a beachy twist on the country genre that could fit right in in an 80s surf movie. With warm, sunny lyrics and wandering guitar solos, this song could get anyone toe-tapping along.

‘You’re Hurt’ is a solemn farewell to the album, and a slow-jammed letter of apology. It explores how it feels to see someone thriving after a separation, and acts as a slow self reflection. With gentle acoustics and forlorn vocals, it perfectly bookends the album and flows  back into the first song, making this an album that can forever stay on repeat.
