The National Indigenous Music Awards (NIMAs) presented by YouTube announces the Hall of Fame inductee for their 2025 ceremony and an artist workshop led by YouTube ahead of the iconic celebration of First Nations music, returning to Darwin Amphitheatre on Saturday 9 August.

In a major moment, Jessica Mauboy will be inducted into the NIMAs Hall of Fame, recognising her remarkable career and lasting impact on First Nations music and the broader Australian music landscape. A proud Kuku Yalanji and Wakaman woman born in Darwin, Mauboy has become one of the country’s most successful recording artists, with six Top 10 albums, 16 Top 20 singles and a whopping 31 ARIA nominations, making her one of the most nominated artists in the Awards’ history. From her breakout on Australian Idol to chart-topping hits like “Burn” and “Little Things”, Mauboy has consistently elevated Blak stories and voices on a national and global stage. She has starred in iconic movies and television shows, including award-winning film The Sapphires and television series The Secret Daughter, becoming the first Indigenous artist to top the ARIA Albums Chart with the show’s soundtrack album. Through her artistry, advocacy and authenticity, Mauboy has paved the way for future generations of First Nations talent.

This year’s NIMAs continues to spotlight the richness and evolution of First Nations artistry, with a weekend of free workshops, community engagement and live music across Garramilla/Darwin, focused on supporting the next generation.

As part of the 2025 program, YouTube Music will present a special workshop on Friday 8 August to help artists amplify their music through the platform. During the free session, head of Music Partnerships for YouTube AU/NZ Marion Goodman-Briand will explore how artists can use a multi-format release strategy to drive discovery and deepen fan engagement throughout each stage of a release cycle. The session will be held at Darwin’s Harbour View Plaza from 2pm and will also be available to live stream for anyone unable to attend in person. Secure your place here.

Marion Goodman-Briand, head of Music Partnerships for YouTube AU/NZ said: “As part of the NIMAs weekend, I’m really excited to be hosting a workshop to help artists grow their audience and engage with fans. The session will cover best practices for every stage of a release cycle, from Shorts and music videos to live streams. I can’t wait to connect with artists and their teams, and to share how they can amplify their music and reach a global audience.”

The 2025 NIMAs will once again bring together some of the country’s most electrifying artists for a night of live performance, storytelling and celebration. This year’s performers include beloved country icon Troy Cassar-Daley, soul legend Emma Donovan, psych-rock visionaries Velvet Trip, gospel and blues vocalist Kankawa Nagarra and the compelling collaboration of Eleanor Jawurlngali & Mick Turner (Dirty Three), who will be premiering the debut single from their upcoming album with the Dirty Three. Jessica Mauboy will also return to the stage for a special performance to mark her Hall of Fame induction.

Now in its 21st year, the NIMAs have grown into a vital national platform for recognising the talent, voices and diversity of Indigenous music from across the continent. From launching careers to honouring legends, the ceremony stands as a powerful moment of pride and reflection, drawing audiences from across the country to Larrakia Country each August.

For the first time, the 2025 ceremony will be livestreamed on YouTube, bringing this powerful celebration of First Nations music to audiences across the globe.
