THE RIOT are ready to air some grievances as they drop their latest single ‘PISSED’ along with its suitably seething video. The Gold Coast three-piece have released the song from the road today as they join WAAX on a whirlwind weekend tour of Queensland. The band has also announced a run of shows in support of the new single.
A 3-minute explosion of rage; ‘PISSED’ is punctuated by the band’s trademark distorted guitars and electronic beats. Pulsating aggression pours from the production as vocalist JD’s seething lyrics call out pretenders, hangers on, or as the band put it, “this song is about the difference between the leeches and the creatures.”
As a band brought together by their shared consciousness in spite of their disparate lives, on their fourth song they find themselves effortlessly writing music. Emerging through the smoke and whiskey in producer Alex Henriksson’s studio, vocalist JD found himself caught up in what THE RIOT have come to recognise as Henriksson’s “zone of magical moments.” He came up with the melody and lyrics instantly, as the band’s instrumentation effortlessly followed. This is a band who are set on only doing what is organic, what is raw and real, “We are out to do exactly what comes to our minds.” And their collaboration with Henriksson that sees them fully realising this goal, “[Alex] allows the subconscious brain to take the driver’s seat. [It’s a] perfect match for us as we love to overthink things.”

Paying homage to the satirical videos of artists like Busta Rhymes, D12, Blink 182 and the Beastie Boys, THE RIOT share, “We really wanted to make a video for PISSED that would show the humorous side in situations where we would be pissed off. We also wanted to pay homage to some of our favourite moments and styles of the 90’s so we got together with our friends Call and Bowen to help bring our vision to life.”
Directors Callum Ellett and Bowen Hopper from flouressence say, “With a band name like ‘THE RIOT’ and a track called ‘PISSED’, it only felt natural to take a tongue-in-cheek approach and show the less serious / comedic side of the boys. Inspired by the year 2000’s we all wanted to give the video a sense of nostalgia. Whilst we were fighting the clock to get everything together in time, seeing the three of them all dressed up in their costumes and getting deeply into their characters is something that we will never forget. I don’t think we have all laughed that much in a long time. Reminding us all what creating is about, having fun with your mates.”
It is that fierce sense of immediacy that finds them releasing music with urgency that cannot be preconceived. And THE RIOT has been lucky enough to unleash this energy out on the road. In addition to their current tour with WAAX, last month they joined Brisbane rapper Nerve for a crowd-thumping show in Burleigh Heads.
The band’s brand of beautiful chaos has hijacked playlists and airwaves across the nation. They’ve earned playlist adds to New Music Friday, Rock Out, Listen Local and Local Noise on Spotify, The New Rock, The Riff and New Music Daily on Apple Music, and Alternative Uprising and New Australian Cool on YouTube Music. Their tracks have received support from triple j, 4ZZZ, FBi Radio and The Faction, with videos being added to rage and MTV Upload. Online, Blunt Magazine, NME, Happy Magazine, Sniffers, Iggy Magazine and Life Without Andy have all praised the three-piece. Their single ‘Same Blunt’ was also used in a sync for Billy Bones Club’s Up To No Good Capsule Collection campaign. Have no doubt, do not panic, THE RIOT is spreading.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
