“The idyllic beachside summer tune, the hook best yelled at the top of your lungs when in a drunken feel-good state, arms rested on the shoulders of your close mates.” The Music (AUS)

“This song keeps popping up in my life, and I keep forgetting to drop a hearty review. Every time I hear it, I cannot get this chorus or beat out of my head. So damn catchy” – ★★★★ Ebony Jade – triple j Unearthed (AUS)

“Will have you floating on a cloud of vivid teenage nostalgia.” Happy Mag (AUS)

Emerging Eora/Sydney-based indie outfit The Sooks return with their sincere single ‘Take It Slow’ – produced by Jack Nigro (The Terrys, Pacific Avenue, Mid Drift). Built around breezy guitars and sun-soaked percussion, ‘Take It Slow’ is a dynamically deft track led by frontman Corey Fitzsimons’ soaring vocals and earnest lyrical core. The song’s reflective nature captures the tension between ambition and burnout, documenting formative moments filled with excitement, uncertainty, and the very real pressures of early adulthood.

The band expand on the inspiration behind ‘Take It Slow’: “‘Take It Slow’ was written in the Summer of 2024, a couple of weeks before we were set to play our very first festival over New Year’s. It was a big time for the band, and we were obviously so stoked to be playing on a big stage, but at the same time, it was so new for us. The cost-of-living crisis was really getting to us. Ultimately, the song is about not letting life dim your shine and doing what you feel you’re meant to do, despite the roadblocks life puts in your way. It’s a mantra. Take it slow. Take it slow. Take it slow… and you’ll pull through.”

Alongside previous singles ‘Kickstarter’ and ‘Sober (For The Second Time)’, ‘Take It Slow’ will appear on their forthcoming EP, due out Wednesday, February 18. The single continues a steady rise for The Sooks, who have quickly become a familiar name on the live circuit, supporting Daily J, Le Shiv, Salarymen, Press Club, Surely Shirley, Bread Club and GRXCE, while also appearing at The Great Escape (TAS), The Big Chill and Good Gumnuts festivals.

In 2024, the band released their debut EP ‘Oyster Boy’, a six-track introduction that laid the groundwork for their sound, drawing inspiration from DICE, Rum Jungle, and The Terrys. At their core, The Sooks are a band built on friendship – something that shines through both their music and their story.

“As corny as it might sound, I fell in love with music after seeing One Direction when I was 8 or 9,” explains Corey. “After meeting Jeremy (bassist) in school, we got really into Australian indie music, leading us to buy guitars and teach ourselves to play. Then, after roping in my brother Keenan (guitarist), primary school mate Jeremy (guitarist) and local legend Flynn (drums), it was game on.”
