As the brainchild of OG-Red-Wiggle, Murray Cook, and his main accomplice, tambourine-wielding co- songwriter, Lizzie Mack, The Soul Movers are oozing with history, musical talent and a whole lot of retro musical passion. Today they release their new album ‘Dumb Luck’, the fourth album since the band’s formation more than ten years ago.
Murray Cook is not someone you generally associate in Australia with serious guitar playing.
But anyone who has seen his guitar collection, his commitment to Carnaby Street heyday stage fashion and his fifty-year daily passion for playing guitar will know one thing for certain; Murray is indeed deadly serious.
He has a lifetime love of guitars and rock and roll. He’s also a passionate punter. It’s the perfect fit with The Soul Movers ‘old-school’ approach to recording and playing, with a mutual passion for analogue sensibilities.
There are no plug-ins on voices, no auto-tune on any recordings and no acoustic tricks on stage, bar a few guitar pedals. In a musical world that changes so quickly, The Soul Movers continue to stay true to their passions.

Murray said, “Since I first saw one of The Monkees playing an electric guitar on their 60s TV show as a seven year old I have been obsessed with the guitar. When I was 11, I pestered my parents to buy me a guitar and then disappeared into my room for the next six years to play it. I collect guitars. I love them – they are tools and works of art. Eventually in the 80s I began playing regularly in bands. It’s my passion. I’ve had a long, amazing musical journey and, with The Soul Movers and this new record, I have come full circle. I’m old-school when it comes to music and the joy for me in recording ‘Dumb Luck’ is that we recorded the way we did when I was starting out. A bunch of friends in the studio banging out some songs because that’s what we love. Sure, we did some overdubs, but the true essence of this album is that it’s a recording of those performances.”
The second album track ‘Trucks’ shows The Soul Movers passion for the retro garage and New Wave sounds (think early Blondie, Violent Femmes, B52’s etc). Add a gleam of sun off the grill with Lizzie’s life-long “crome lust” (as displayed here in full MACK glory) to the crazy brother/ sister love in The Soul Moving fraternity… and The Soul Movers are hitting the road. No stoppin’ passing-through-YEAH!!

The Soul Movers play live in the studio, grab that passion to create a sound on vinyl that is real, raw and funky before reproducing that same killer vibe on stage, just taking it up a notch or two!
“Our live shows are full of what we call ‘Muzz-luv’ initially but within two songs the transformation takes place,” says Lizzie. “The kids get it – they get that we are raw, real, and digging deep. And they LOVE to watch Muz do what he does best – play his bloody awesome guitar and enjoy every aspect of making wild, live music.”
To put the bling on ‘Dumb Luck’, the Soul Movers returned to many of the mind-blowingly original, hit-making studios they worked in to create 2019’s ‘Bona Fide’ album, and like all their previous albums including ‘Testify!’ and ‘Evolution’, they recorded in both the US and Australia.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
