The Wombats continue their meteoric rise with the unveiling of the official video for their track “Turn”, taken from the new album Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life, which is available now. The latest track was also Annie Mac’s Hottest Record this week on BBC Radio 1.

The video was directed by Brother Willis (Beirut, King Krule, Wolfmother), and in his words, “There’s something about the pace of the song (coupled with the title of course) that suggested a constantly spinning visual to me. The lyrics so visually depict specific memories that it seemed like a logical way to show memories floating around inside Murph’s head. Also, I love disembodied brains.”

“Turn was written in New York and is probably the most electronic song on the album,” frontman Matthew “Murph” Murphy explains. “Which is weird as I was pushing for the album to be more organic and less synth driven. Turn was… kind of a beautiful mistake.”

Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life debuted at #5 on the ARIA Album Charts on release and quickly clocked up over 3 million Aussie album streams. While in the US the record has been positioned at  #1 on Alt Nation (Countdown) for the past six weeks, as well as sitting in the Top 40 at Alternative Radio.

Produced by Mark Crew (Bastille, Rag’n’Bone Man) and Catherine Marks (Wolf Alice), the album finds The Wombats pushing the boundaries of alt-pop innovation with a lush, ultramodern indie soundscape, irrepressible hooks and tragi-comic lyricism belied by a newfound maturity and moving emotional depth.

On the back of their fully sold-out UK headline tour this month, it was announced that The Wombats will again bring their awe inspiring live show back to Australia as part of the Splendour In The Grass Festival this July. Click here for ticketing information.
