Transglobal indie rockers The Wonder return with their vibrant new EP, Pop, out today, including lead track “Listen to the Radio” – an encouraging ode to perseverance and the importance of going after one’s dreams.
“‘Listen to the Radio’ is a song about the dream of starting this band. Take the first verse:
The lonely streets
The midnight beat
As you strive to get your
Name in lights
“That is about going to my little studio every night to work on songs and how difficult it was to begin.” Explains The Wonder’s vocalist and guitarist Matt Davis. “But! Then a word from the future:
Listen to the radio… it’s me, singing to you from beyond the tides.

“The song is about following our dreams, even though it can be hard at times. You never know what can happen if you just keep going.”
Pop EP’s uplifting opening track was recorded live at Paradise Studio in Paris and captures the youthful enthusiasm that the band felt when they first started making music together. The song relishes in this fun energy and introduces the listener to the constant theme of redemption that runs throughout the EP, which features five songs that are about second chances and continuing when things get tough.
Founded in Paris by Australian vocalist and guitarist Matt Davis – who is also a founding member of Melbourne rock band Gersey – The Wonder features Parisian musicians Alexandre Gontard (bass), Nico Defeudis (guitar), Milan Zuidema (keys and backup vocals) and Fulvio Serpone (drums). The band dropped their debut EP Pilot in 2015, followed by 2019’s Love LP which France’s Magic RPM described as “beautifully captivating”.
The Wonder performed across Paris, London, Prague and Melbourne, shared stages with Spiral Stairs and Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever and were invited to showcase at SXSW 2020 before Covid hit, and Davis didn’t touch a guitar for a year.
In October 2022, an email is received. The Wonder were invited to open for Pavement at Le Grand Rex in Paris. A band that Davis sites as his favourite, and at a venue where he spent his last euro to see Tom Waits back in 2008. Davis dusts off his guitar and writes some songs specifically for the show. The band come together and bring the music to life. It’s effortless fun, like no time has passed.

The Wonder opened for Pavement as planned, before taking the new music to the studio. Vocals are recorded with Nick Huggins (Dirty Three, Jen Cloher) at Resting Bell in Australia. Dan Long (Local Natives, Film School) mixes it in Los Angeles and Dave Gardiner (John Spencer, Bad Brains) is the mastering engineer. The EP is born.
Pop is alive and melodious. It’s music about hope, love and overcoming adversity. The Wonder are excited to share the EP with the world and know that it wouldn’t have been made if it hadn’t been for Pavement’s Spiral Stairs asking them to open their Paris show, and for that, they are eternally grateful. Pop will arrive on Friday 28 February 2025.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
