Sydney electronic music producers, This Week In The Universe, today reveal their latest EP, Everything is What We Thought It Was will be released later this year on Friday, September 1. Additionally, the duo share their newest single and accompanying video, “As The World Burns”featuring hip-hop heavyweight, Substantial.

A compendium of forward-thinking collaborations between local and international artists, Everything is What We Thought It Was is the duo’s latest EP and addition to their cinematic synth-pop cosmos. Newest single, “As The World Burns” joins previous release to feature on the EP, including “Weightless” starring Wallace.

The cool and collected flow of Substantial opens “As The World Burns” while a luscious synth arrangement colours the track’s accompaniment beneath. A crisp drum beat allows the veteran rapper to deliver each line with sharp finesse, as he lyrically marches out a tale of climate change and its many costs. Expansive and swarming, the song’s crescendoing mood matches the accompanying visuals of a classic television set bearing footage of climate devastation in effect. Named one of the great MCs of our time by Public Enemy’s Chuck D, Substantial has a highly revered back catalogue in jazz rap and currently serves as ambassador of hip-hop for the US. Department of State.

This Week In The Universe say, “We first heard Substantial’s music only a couple of years ago and we became fans right away. He’s an amazing MC and artist and a legit hip-hop veteran so we were honoured that he was keen to do something together. Things just flowed from there. Stan brought the lyrical content and climate change themes to an early demo and we worked the production based on his contributions. We worked together remotely but the track came together really quickly. You want every collaboration to be like this one. We’re proud of the track and its message and loved working with Stan.”

This Week In The Universe are composed of brothers Beau and Casey Golden. Growing up, their combined love for 80s film music and vintage synths led to the sonic DNA on which their music rests. The duo were featured heavily on Daniel Johns’ ARIA Number 1 album FutureNever, and as producers, have worked across releases from Ruel, M-Phazes, Lily Allen, Claptone, Vera Blue and more. Their latest rotation of singles followed their debut 2019 album Tellurian, and previous collaborations on singles, “Light Years” feat. David Binney & Golds and “Distance” feat. Ric Rufio, and have enjoyed radio support from triple j, FBi Radio and additions from Rage and MTV.

Take one giant leap towards the magic that is This Week In The Universe and their newest hip-hop enshrined single,As The World Burns”, ahead of more music to come in September.
