Album Highlights:

#1: Midnight Oil ‘Resist’ – Australian music icon Midnight Oil claim their sixth #1 album on the ARIA Charts as they debut in the top spot this week with Resist. It’s the 13th studio album from the 2006 ARIA Hall Of Fame inductees. Their previous album, The Makarrata Project (#1 Nov. ’20) – with First Nations Collaborators – earned the band five ARIA Award nominations in 2021, including Album Of The Year. Midnight Oil have previously hit #1 with the albums Red Sails in the Sunset (#1 Nov. ’84), Diesel and Dust (#1 Aug. ’87), Blue Sky Mining (#1 Mar. ’90) and 20,000 Watt RSL – The Midnight Oil Collection (#1 Oct. ’97). Resist is the second Australian #1 album on the ARIA Charts in 2022.

Midnight Oil said: “Thanks to everyone who’s supported RESIST – we greatly appreciate it – but we’re shocked that INXS and ourselves are among only four Australian Artists with top 40 albums this week. What year is it again? We’ve been fortunate to have some great media support, particularly from the ABC and Triple M, but clearly the federal government needs to introduce better local content rules – and better enforcement of those rules – across all platforms to make sure that the next generation of local artists get a fair go.”

ARIA Chief Executive Officer, Annabelle Herd, said: “We are thrilled to see an Australian album top the chart for a second week in a row, and congratulate Midnight Oil in adding another achievement to their legendary career. From a breakthrough number one last week to a legacy act triumph today, It is clear that the breadth and depth of Australian music is in an incredible place – something we should all be very proud to celebrate.”

#22: Methyl Ethel ‘Are You Haunted?’ – Perth act Methyl Ethel debut at #22 with their fourth album Are You Haunted? It’s the follow-up to Triage (#11 Feb. ’19), which gave them their highest ARIA Charts peak to date. The new album includes a collaboration with fellow Perth artist Stella Donnelly on the track ‘Proof’. Are You Haunted? has debuted at #1 on this week’s ARIA Vinyl Albums Chart.
