Singles Chartifacts: 

#1: Glass Animals ‘Heat Waves’ – British band Glass Animals notch up their sixth week at #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart with their hit ‘Heat Waves’. The last British group to top the Singles Chart, Clean Bandit, also spent six straight weeks in the top spot with ‘Rockabye’ in December 2016/January 2017.

#5: Masked Wolf ‘Astronaut In The Ocean’ – Moving up two spots, Sydney rapper Masked Wolf cracks the ARIA Top 5 for the first time with ‘Astronaut In The Ocean’. It’s also hit the Top 5 in Germany, Switzerland, Finland and Hungary.

#16: Lil Nas X ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name)’ – This week’s highest debut comes from Lil Nas X as he hits #16 with ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name)’. It’s the second single released from the American rapper’s forthcoming debut album, Montero, set for release later in the year, after ‘Holiday’ (#42 Jan. ’21). Lil Nas X spent 13 weeks at #1 with ‘Old Town Road’ (#1 Apr. ’19).

#34: Taylor Swift ‘You All Over Me (Taylor’s Version)’ – Ahead of the release of Fearless (Taylor’s Version), Taylor Swift takes out a second Singles Chart entry from it at #34 with ‘You All Over Me (Taylor’s Version)’. The track, which features singer-songwriter Maren Morris, was originally recorded for 2008’s Fearless but was left off the album. The first chart entry from the re-recording of Swift’s second studio album was ‘Love Story (Taylor’s Version)’ (#21 Feb. ’21).

Albums Chartifacts:

#1: Skegss ‘Rehearsal’ – Byron Bay surf rock band Skegss score their first #1 album on the ARIA Charts as they debut in the top spot with Rehearsal. The trio’s second album is the follow-up to My Own Mess (#2 Sept. ’18), which was nominated for Best Rock Album at the 2019 ARIA Awards. During 2020, Skegss re-released some of their early work on vinyl, including the EP 50 Push Ups For A Dollar (#4 Oct. ’20) and the double EP set Holiday Food / Everyone Is Good At Something (#17 Nov. ’20). Rehearsal is also #1 on the ARIA Vinyl Albums Chart.

Skegss’ Ben Reed says “Well This is pretty cool! Was not expecting it, thanks so much!! Day for it”.

ARIA CEO Annabelle Herd says “Congratulations to Skegss on getting their first #1 album with Rehearsal! Their good time energy is exactly what we need right now and doubly good that a Byron Bay group tops the chart this week.”

Rehearsal is the sixth Australian #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart in 2021.

#3: Evanescence ‘The Bitter Truth’ – Releasing The Bitter Truth, Evanescence take out their fifth ARIA Top Ten entry at #3. The American gothic rock band’s fifth studio album is their first since Synthesis (#6 Nov. ’17). Evanescence have topped the chart with Fallen (#1 Feb. ’04) and The Open Door (#1 Oct. ’06).

#5: NF ‘Clouds (The Mixtape)’ – NF takes out his second Top Five entry as he debuts at #5 with Clouds (The Mixtape). The new release comes a little under two years after the American rapper first hit the chart with fourth album The Search (#3 Aug. ’19) and include collaborations with Hopsin and Tech N9ne.

#18: Tomahawk ‘Tonic Immobility’ – Debuting at #18, American rock supergroup Tomahawk return with Tonic Immobility, their first album in eight years. The Mike Patton-fronted band’s fifth studio album is the follow-up to Oddfellows (#37 Feb. ’13).

#19: Tame Impala ‘InnerSpeaker’ – Tame Impala’s debut album InnerSpeakerreturns to the chart this week at #19 after it was reissued to mark its tenth anniversary. The new 4 LP version of the album includes discs of album sketches, a side-long jam, new mixes of tracks off the original album and instrumentals. Debuting at #4 in May 2010, InnerSpeaker was nominated for Album Of The Year, Best Rock Album and Best Cover Art at the 2010 ARIA Awards. Tame Impala were big winners at the 2020 ARIA Awards, taking home five trophies including Album Of The Year for The Slow Rush. Thanks to the re-release, InnerSpeaker is #2 on the ARIA Vinyl Albums Chart this week.

#27: Original Broadway Cast ‘Hamilton – An American Musical’ – The soundtrack to Hamilton returns to the ARIA Top 50 this week after the acclaimed musical had its Australian premiere in Sydney. Originally debuting on the chart in 2016, the album surged back up the chart in mid-2020 following the release of a Hamilton performance from Broadway onto Apple TV+. It peaked at #6 and spent four weeks in the Top Ten.

#28: Troye Sivan ‘Blue Neighbourhood’ – Troye Sivan’s debut album Blue Neighbourhood re-enters the Top 50 at #28 after the release of a new vinyl issue. The new pressing was issued to mark the fifth anniversary of the album, which peaked at #6 in December 2015. Blue Neighbourhood earned Sivan Album Of The Year, Best Male Artist and Best Pop Release nominations at the 2016 ARIA Awards.

#39: Benny Blanco ‘Friends Keep Secrets’ – Benny Blanco makes his ARIA Top 50 debut at #39 with Friends Keep Secrets. The American singer-songwriter’s debut album was first released in 2018. Its entry onto the chart comes after it was re-issued with a second disc featuring the Justin Bieber collaboration ‘Lonely’ (#11 Nov. ’20), as well as tracks with Vance Joy, Marshmello, Juice WRLD and Gracie Abrams.

#49: Ben Mastwyk ‘Livin’ On Gold Street’ – Melbourne singer-songwriter Ben Mastwyk makes his ARIA Albums Chart debut with Livin’ On Gold Street. It’s the third album from the country-soul artist, coming three years on from previous LP Winning Streak. Livin’ On Gold Street has debuted at #10 on this week’s Vinyl Albums Chart and #5 on the Country Albums Chart.
