Singles Chartifacts:
#1: Glass Animals ‘Heat Waves’ – In its twelfth week in the Top 50, ‘Heat Waves’ by Glass Animals hits #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart for the first time. The track, which topped the Triple J Hottest 100 of 2020 in January, becomes the British band’s first chart-topping single anywhere in the world. They’re the first British group to top the Singles Chart since Clean Bandit spent six weeks at #1 in 2016/7 with ‘Rockabye’ (#1 Dec. ’16).
On hearing of their #1, Glass Animals’ Dave Bayley said: “Can’t believe this. This was never the intention when we started this album….the goal was to write some songs that maybe made someone feel less alone for a moment when they needed it. Thats what my favourite songs do for me at least. The messages, kind words, art and other creative responses to this album have gone beyond all of our wildest dreams. That makes this number one endlessly meaningful. Australia – you have been home to many firsts for us – and this is another one. Thank you, we miss you, and we will be there asap. I actually have the dates pencilled in my calendar. We will celebrate together then. x”
#12: Cardi B ‘Up’ – ‘Up’, the follow-up to Cardi B’s chart-topping ‘WAP’ (#1 Aug. ’20), climbs seven spots to hit #12 in its third week on the chart. It takes over from ‘I Like It’ (#14 Jul.’18) as the American rapper’s second-highest chart peak. To date, ‘Up’ has peaked at #2 in the US.
#22: Amy Shark Feat. Keith Urban ‘Love Songs Ain’t For Us’ – ARIA Award winner Amy Shark takes out her first new Singles Chart entry for 2021 as she debuts at #22 with the Keith Urban-featured track ‘Love Songs Ain’t For Us’. Co-written with Ed Sheeran, it’s the fourth single released from Shark’s forthcoming second album, Cry Forever, which is set for release in April. The album will also include previous single ‘Everybody Rise’ (#31 Sept. ’20).
#25: Masked Wolf ‘Astronaut In The Ocean’ – After debuting at #47 last week, Sydney rapper Masked Wolf climbs 22 spots to #25 with ‘Astronaut In The Ocean’. The track was originally released in mid-2019 before being re-released in January of this year. The Melbourne singer-songwriter’s second studio album is the follow-up to Flow State (#2 Sept. ’18) and includes collaborations with Matt Corby, Dann Hume and rapper Jerome Farah. Sultana’s previous album won Best Blues & Roots Album at the 2019 ARIA Awards. It becomes their third Top Ten release, having first charted with the EP Flow State (#8 Feb. ’17). Terra Firma also tops this week’s ARIA Vinyl Albums Chart.
Tash Sultana said: “I’ve had the most incredible, emotional and overwhelming week after releasing Terra Firma and I’m just really lost for words that it’s number 1. Like I really am lost for words. I was really unsatisfied with the work I’ve done in the past prior to Terra Firma and my mission for this record was to try to be better than I was the day before, the month before, the year before. I produced, arranged, composed, co-engineered and played everything on this record and did it all in my own studio. This was my mission, my entire soul, the air in my lungs and to have it received this way is so much more than I ever expected. I feel seen. I feel heard in a way I’ve been trying to communicate for a long time. Thank you to my family, my friends, MY FANS, my management, thank you to my Sony Music family, Denis & Marietta, thank you ARIA, thank you Richard Stolz, Matt Corby, Dann Hume, Jerome Farah, Josh Cashman & Andrei Eremin. Thank you world.”
ARIA CEO Annabelle Herd said: “Congratulations to Tash Sultana and the teams at Lemon Tree Music, Lonely Lands and Sony Music Australia on their #1 ARIA album. It’s been an incredible journey for Tash, from busker to Bandcamp to breaking through and now having the #1 album in the country. We know that the rest of the world has already caught on, and we couldn’t be more excited to follow the next part of their career.”
Terra Firma is the fifth Australian #1 album on the ARIA Charts in 2021.
#3: Ariana Grande ‘Positions’ – Ariana Grande’s Positions climbs back up the chart from #32 to #3 following the release of a deluxe edition. Among the tracks on the new version is the remix of ‘34+35’ (#5 Jan. ’21) featuring Doja Cat and Megan Thee Stallion.
#9: BTS ‘BE’ – BTS’ BE re-enters the Top 50 following the release of a new edition. The K-pop group’s fifth Korean-language album debuted at #2 in late-November 2020. The new release of BE is called the Essential Edition and comes as a thank you to fans for the “historic milestones”, including becoming the fastest group to earn five chart-topping albums in the United States since The Beatles.
#10: Adam Harvey ‘Songs From Highway One’ – Australian country singer-songwriter Adam Harvey takes out his sixth career Top Ten on the ARIA Albums Chart with Songs From Highway One. Harvey’s 15th studio album features collaborations with Graeme Connors, Colin Buchanan, Beccy Cole, Darren Coggan and Felicity Urquhart. Songs From Highway One also tops the ARIA Country Albums Chart this week, becoming Harvey’s eighth album to do so.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
