Singles Chartifacts: 

#1: Olivia Rodrigo ‘Drivers License’ – American singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo debuts at #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart with her first single, ‘Drivers License’. The 17-year-old Californian has previously acted in the series Bizaardvark and High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. She contributed the track ‘All I Want’ to the latter’s soundtrack. Rodrigo becomes the first artist to debut at #1 with their debut single since Harry Styles’ ‘Sign Of The Times’ (#1 Apr. ’17).

#7: Tones And I ‘Fly Away’ – Moving up one spot, Tones And I’s ‘Fly Away’ equals the peak reached by ‘Never Seen The Rain’ (#7 Dec. ’19), becoming the ARIA Award winner’s joint second-highest chart entry. The record-breaking ‘Dance Monkey’ was #1 on the 2020 ARIA End Of Year Australian Singles Chart announced this week.

#9: SZA ‘Good Days’ – After debuting at #38 last week, SZA climbs up the chart 29 spots to hit #9 with ‘Good Days’. It becomes the American neo-soul artist’s first solo entry in the Top Ten. She previously hit #2 when she collaborated with Kendrick Lamar on ‘All The Stars’ in February 2018.

#17: Glass Animals ‘Heat Waves’ – In its sixth week in the chart, Glass Animals’ ‘Heat Waves’ moves up five spots to #17, hitting the Top 20 for the first time. The track, from the English band’s third album Dreamland (#6 Aug. ’20), is being touted as a contender for the top spot in the upcoming Triple J Hottest 100.

#1: Barry Gibb ‘Greenfields: The Gibb Brothers’ Songbook’ – The legendary Barry Gibb takes out his first ever solo #1 on the ARIA Charts as he debuts in the top of the Albums Chart with Greenfields: The Gibb Brothers’ Songbook. Gibb’s third solo album and the follow-up to In The Now (#3 Oct. ’16) sees him teaming up with country stars to reimagine songs from the Bee Gees’ canon such as ‘Words’, ‘Jive Talkin’’, ‘How Deep Is Your Love’, ‘Run To Me’, ‘Too Much Heaven’ and more. Collaborators include Keith Urban, Olivia Newton-John, Jason Isbell, Dolly Parton, David Rawlings and Gillian Welch, Sheryl Crow and Alison Krauss. As one third of the Bee Gees – who were inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame in 1997 – Gibb topped the ARIA Albums Chart with Live – One Night Only (#1 Mar. ’99).

#2: Morgan Wallen ‘Dangerous: The Double Album’ – American country artist Morgan Wallen makes his ARIA Top 50 debut with second album, Dangerous: The Double Album. The two-disc set comes two years on from Wallen’s debut If I Know Me which was #1 on the Country Albums Chart in the US.

#6: Passenger ‘Songs For The Drunk And Broken Hearted’ – English singer-songwriter Passenger releases his 13th studio album, Songs For The Drunk And Broken Hearted. The follow-up to 2020’s Patchwork, it’s the first Passenger album to appear in the ARIA Top 50 since Runaway (#7 Sept. ’18) and was recorded in his home studio in Brighton, England. Among Passenger’s six Top Ten albums, he topped the chart with Young As The Morning Old As The Sea (#1 Oct. ’16).

#39: SZA ‘Ctrl’ – On the back of new single ‘Good Days’, which hits a new peak this week at #9, SZA takes out a new Albums Chart peak at #39 with Ctrl(#40 Jun. ’17). The singer-songwriter’s debut album previously spent one week in the Top 50 back in June 2017 when it debuted at #40.
