Kanye West claims fourth ARIA #1 album, 19 tracks in Top 50

Album Highlights:
#1: Kanye West ‘Donda’ – American hip hop superstar Kanye West takes out his fourth ARIA #1 album with Donda. West’s tenth album was released on 29 August after more than a year of delays. The 27-track album includes appearances by Jay-Z, Playboi Carti, The Weeknd, Kid Cudi, Ty Dolla Sign and more. West previously hit #1 on the Albums Chart with Yeezus (#1 Jun. ’13), ye(#1 Jun. ’18) and Jesus Is King (#1 Nov. ’19).
#2: Bliss N Eso ‘The Sun’ – Returning with The Sun, their first album in four years, Sydney hip hop group Bliss N Eso claim their fifth Top Ten on the ARIA Charts. It’s the follow-up to Off The Grid (#1 May ’17) and includes collaborations with Chillinit, Dizzee Rascal and Kasey Chambers. Their first Top Ten entry was with Flying Colours (#10 May ’08). The Sun tops this week’s ARIA Vinyl Albums Chart.
#3: Halsey ‘If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power’ – Halsey scores her fourth Top Ten on the ARIA Albums Chart as she releases If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power. The American singer-songwriter’s fourth album is the follow-up to Manic(#2 Jan. ’20). It was produced by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails and features contributions from Lindsey Buckingham and Dave Grohl. No singles were released prior to the album dropping.
#6: Chvrches ‘Screen Violence’ – British synth-pop band Chvrches take out their third Top Ten album with Screen Violence. The trio’s fourth album follows Love Is Dead (#7 Jun. ’18) and includes a collaboration with The Cure’s Robert Smith on the track ‘How Not to Drown’. Chvrches first hit the Top Ten with Every Open Eye (#3 Oct. ’15).
#10: OneRepublic ‘Human’ – OneRepublic return with Human, their first album in five years. The American pop band’s fifth album becomes their fourth Top Ten in Australia, following Oh My My (#8 Oct. ’16), Native (#8 Sept. ’13) and Dreaming Out Loud (#4 Apr. ’08). Human includes the single ‘Rescue Me’ (#26 Jul. ’19).
#13: Gretta Ray ‘Begin To Look Around’ – Gretta Ray scores a new ARIA Albums Chart peak as she releases Begin To Look Around. The Melbourne singer-songwriter’s debut album comes three years on from making her chart debut with the EP Here and Now (#46 Aug. ’18). Gang Of Youths’ Dave Le’aupepe appears on the track ‘Worldy-Wise’.
#16: The Bronx ‘Bronx (VI)’ – LA punk band The Bronx claim a new peak on the ARIA Albums Chart as they debut at #16 with Bronx (VI). It debuts ten spots higher than their previous peak, reached with V (#26 Oct. ’17). It’s the band’s first album to feature former Queens Of The Stone Age drummer Joey Castillo as a member.
#32: Ngaiire ‘3’ – Sydney-based artist Ngaiire takes out her second ARIA Top 50 entry as 3 debuts at #32. The singer-songwriter’s third album comes five years on from Blastoma (#41 Jun. ’16). 3 includes the single ‘Shiver’, which made the 2019 Vanda & Young Global Songwriting Competition shortlist.

#1: The Kid Laroi & Justin Bieber ‘Stay’ – ‘Stay’ by The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber remains at #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart for the eighth week. The longest running #1 single of 2021 joins 5 Seconds Of Summer’s ‘Youngblood’ (#1 May ’18), Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ (#1 Aug. ’11), Savage Garden’s ‘Truly Madly Deeply’ (#1 Apr. ’97) and Austin Tayshus’ ‘Australiana’ (#1 Aug. ’83) in third place for the most weeks at #1 by an Australian artist on the ARIA Singles Chart.
#3: Elton John & Dua Lipa ‘Cold Heart (Pnau Remix)’ – Elton John and Dua Lipa’s collaboration ‘Cold Heart (Pnau Remix)’ moves up one spot to hit a new peak at #3. The track equals the peak hit by John’s last duet to hit the Top Ten, ‘Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me’ (#3 Jan. ’92) with George Michael. This week, the track was announced as being part of John’s upcoming 32nd studio album, The Lockdown Sessions, set for release in October.
#4: Kanye West ‘Hurricane – Version 2’ – Topping the ARIA Albums Chart with Donda, Kanye West hits the Singles Chart with 19 tracks from the project. As well as the Top Tens ‘Hurricane – Version 2’ (#4), ‘Jail’ (#5) and ‘Off The Grid’ (#9), there’s ‘Praise God’ (#13), ‘Moon’ (#15), ‘Believe What I Say’ (#17), ‘Jonah’ (#19), ‘God Breathed’ (#20), ‘Ok Ok’ (#22), ‘Heaven and Hell’ (#24), ‘24’ (#29), ‘Junya’ (#30), ‘No Child Left Behind’ (#31), ‘Remote Control’ (#34), ‘Pure Souls’ (#37), ‘Donda’ (#38), ‘Keep My Spirit Alive’ (#41), ‘Jesus Lord’ (#44), ‘New Again’ (#46).
West breaks the record for most debuts in the Top 50 in one week, set by Taylor Swift’s 16 tracks in August 2020. He also takes the record for most tracks in the Top 50 in one week, previously held by Post Malone and Michael Jackson, who had 17 each.
#26: Doja Cat ‘Woman’ – Doja Cat scores two debuts in this week’s Top 50: hitting #26 with ‘Woman’ and #49 with ‘Get Into It (Yuh)’. They’re the fifth and sixth tracks, receptively to chart from the American artist’s third album, Planet Her (#3 Jul. ’21), after ‘Kiss Me More’ (#2 May ’21), ‘Need To Know’ (#9 Aug. ’21), ‘You Right’ (#11 Jul. ’21) and ‘I Don’t Do Drugs’ (#43 Jul. ’21).
