“HEADACHE”

Sydney bedroom pop songwriter-performer-producer, Thomas Porter, has joined forces with rising Canberra pop star, Lucy Sugerman, to deliver the superb and adorable new single, ‘Headache’ out now via Dew Process.
The track’s quirky lyrics describe the aftermath of an awkward hook-up, when one of the participants just won’t leave and the two sides of the situation engage in a cheeky back-and-forth exchange, soundtracked by gentle, bright guitar strums, producing a precious pop gem.

“This song will always hold such a special place in my heart – Thomas and I wrote this in a bedroom make-shift studio 3 years ago, and it came together so quickly and easily. The track you hear today is really not that different from the demo, and I think that’s what I love most about it. It’s silly, it’s fun, it’s down-to-earth, and both Thomas and I agree that it was such a formative moment in our journeys of finding the type of music we want to make.” said Sugerman
“Honestly, I am just so excited for this song to be coming out finally. Lucy and I wrote it three years ago at my childhood home, before Covid was a thing and before either of us really knew what we wanted to do in music. It’s a very, very, very silly song about a true story that happened to one of my friends, and I hope everyone has as much fun listening to it as Lucy and I did making it all those years ago.” Said Porter
The single has been released with an equally tongue-in-cheek approach to the song and its lyrics. Filmed in Sugerman’s hometown of Canberra by Jimmy Ennett from Crux Media, watch the amusing video for the single “Headache” below.
“We shot this video at some of my favourite places in my hometown of Canberra – it’s always fun to get dressed up for stuff like this, and the whole team involved made it so enjoyable! I also got to bring along a bunch of my friends for the cafe/performane scenes, which was really sweet. The concept is light-hearted and playful like the song, and the Crux Media guys did such a wonderful job at capturing the essence of the track.” says Sugerman
“This video was shot over two days in the picturesque Canberra and is probably the most fun I’ve had on a video set. I’m so glad that the visuals going along with this song are as silly and fun as the song itself,” says Porter
“Headache” is available on all platforms now.

About THOMAS PORTER
The Sydney-based musician Thomas Porter is an exciting new entrance to the Australian indie-pop scene. He first discovered a love of writing music as an 11-year-old while teaching himself to play the piano at home–refusing to take more lessons alongside his already gruelling school schedule and instead teaching himself piano so he could write music on his own. He then learned how to sing after signing up for the school play at 12–making one hell of an Artful Dodger in Oliver and discovering how to project his voice in a new way. From this, the music of today’s Thomas Porter was finally born–producing, writing and mixing everything himself.
Recently unveiled his debut EP, Manic Pixie Dream Girl, landing him the cover of Spotify’s Softly and Pop n’ Freshplaylists and additions to Front Left, Bedroom Pop, New Music Friday AU & NZ, and more.
Across his debut, Porter continues his exploration of bedroom-pop sonics, bringing his signature charming vocals and introspective lyricism to the body of work. Porter has written and produced for some amazing Indie artists such as grentperez, Lola Scott, biblemami, Boy Soda, HANNI, and Tia Gostelow.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
