The Dark Pool – the debut album from rapidly rising heavy-hitters Thornhill – is out in full today via UNFD. To celebrate the release the Melbourne five-piece have dropped a limited edition vinyl variant, following the first pre-order pressing selling out in under a week. The second run will be available worldwide and limited to 320 copies.

Featuring singles ‘Nurture’, ‘Where We Go When We Die’ and ‘In My Skin’The Dark Pool, has marked itself as one of the most heavily-anticipated debut efforts in the Australian heavy space this year. From the sweltering breakdown of ‘Views From The Sun’, to the unrelenting riffage of ‘Nurture’ and the breathy moment of rest on ‘All The Light We Don’t See’, Thornhill have seized a knockout brand of modern heavy on the 11-track release.

“’In My Skin’ is a huge one on the album for me. I’ve never liked what I look like, I’ve looked in the mirror a million times and hated myself, so I decided that this year, 2019, was the year I did something about it,” Jacob says. “After UNIFY, I got off stage and saw the pictures and I absolutely hated how I looked, so after that I cut my hair off and have since lost 15kgs. I’m still not where I want to be, but I’m going hard enough at it that I simply can’t hate myself because I’m on the journey.

“While this song is about me and my body, it can be for everyone dealing with something they’re not happy with. I’ve learnt that you can be happier just for doing something about it, rather than necessarily getting to the outcome.”

On radio, lead single ‘Nurture’ has enjoyed a rinsing on full rotation on triple j, and The Dark Pool has been swept up as Feature Album on major heavy music radio station The Faction. Via streaming, Thornhill have  collected over 1 million streams in the last six months.

Thornhill’s recent visual offering ‘Where We Go When We Die’ also swung heads for its staggering cinematic command and has enjoyed air time on ABC’s Rage, meanwhile the likes of Rock Sound classed The Dark Pool as an “absolute metalcore triumph” and  Depth Magazine dished out a phenomenal 10/10 rating.

On the live front, Thornhill’s hometown album launch show sold out over two months in advance. Limited remaining tickets for all other cities are available HERE. They’ll also headline the debut Misery Emo Boat Party next month, and join US metalcore giants Wage War on their European run in January.
