Recently announced on the lineup for The Hills Are Alive and Here’s To Now festivals, Adelaide indie-alternative artist Timberwolf today shares his new single “Washed Out” (as premiered last night on triple j’s Good Nights) and reveals his own intimate summer headline shows.
The first single from his anticipated debut album due in 2017, “Washed Out” explores death, falling-out and friendship. It was co-written with Jonathan Boulet and Oscar Dawson (who has previously worked with Holy Holy & Ali Barter) on the New South Wales Central Coast earlier this year.
“I wrote the lyrics after an intoxicated revelation during a 3am skinny dip at Bondi. I remember feeling blind in the ocean, and it was an invigorating reminder of how beautiful it feels to be truly present. The ocean and the sky had formed one shade of charcoal, and I couldn’t even see the waves until they had already washed over me. That’s where I came up with the expression ‘Washed Out’. I couldn’t help but reflect on the loss of colour in the sky, how it reminds me of death, and a sad fall-out I had with a close-friend of mine in my mid-teens that I’ve always regretted.” – Christopher Panousakis(Timberwolf)
Since releasing his Flux EP in 2015 and reaching 1 million streams on Spotify as an independent artist, Timberwolf has performed to sold out crowds across the country at Groovin The Moo, WOMADelaide, Big Pineapple, BIG SOUND and Woodford Folk Festival, as well as taking out Best Songwriter and Best Male Artist at South Australian Music Awards. His previous single “Something That I Said” premiered on Stereogum, was added to rotation on triple j as well as community radio nationwide, signed him to US publisher Third Side Music (Courtney Barnett, Flying Lotus, BadBadNotGood, Kurt Vile, Wolf Parade) and booking agency Select.
“Though he may be exploring a new sound, he exudes a comfort and confidence that hints at the album being something special” – Stereogum
“There’s a lot of talk about this young Adelaide-based artist, and with good reason – his lyrics are poignant, his music captivating, his motives pure” – Rolling Stone
Together with this and his debut album deep in the works, 2017 is shaping up to be an incredible year for this stand out artist. Don’t miss Timberwolf when he visits Adelaide’s Grace Emily and the Grace Darling in Melbourne from late February.
