Fresh off being crowned champion of triple j Unearthed’s 2021 DIY Supergroup, Brisbane-based, Indigenous producer Moss officially releases ‘SABRE TEETH (feat. Genesis Owusu)’ and announces his signing to October Records. Impressing peers alike, the highly anticipated release captured the attention of the triple j audience from the first listen, with Genesis Owusu coming on board as an official feature artist. The bass-heavy single utilises samples from Touch Sensitive, San Cisco, Vallis Alps, Alison Wonderland, and the hard-hitting intensive vocals of Genesis Owusu, combining them with intensive breakdowns and a distinctive didgeridoo-infused bass drop. Moss elevates the defiant raps of Genesis Owusu, leaning into his Indigenous heritage for a dramatic production that finds its home on October Records.

On the response to ‘SABRE TEETH’, Moss said, “The response to SABRE TEETH so far has been mind blowing. From the triple j text line to Instagram comments, everyone has shown such love for the track. Genesis Owusu’s vocals hit with such a powerful message and I wanted to connect that with my Indigenous heritage. I’m so glad everyone who’s listening is also connecting with that too.”

After falling in love with the way Moss depicted his emotive vocal sample, Genesis Owusu decided to join on as a feature artist, saying, “I recorded my vocals for the track at an extremely emotive and tumultuous time. Those words had a lot of rage and despair soaked through them. While the original track never saw the light of day, Moss managed to take those vocals and put an energy behind them that captured the exact same ferocity, and even adding another layer beyond it by adding elements of his own indigenous heritage. I’m more than happy my words ended up taking this form in Moss’ track.”

Moss has combined his flair for emotive production and his passion for storytelling with the release of ‘SABRE TEETH’’, which received critical acclaim among many in the industry. triple j Breakfast presenter Ebony Boadu said, “This is easily the sickest drop I’ve heard this year.” While the upload on Unearthed received high praise from the likes of Lucy Smith, Dave Ruby Howe, Declan Byrne, and many more. The track has quickly become one of the most played on the station, while also receiving online support from the likes of NME and The Music Network. Beyond ‘Sabre Teeth’ his debut single ‘Lullabye’ surpassed 200,000 streams in its first month, following up with ‘idek’ which was supported by some of the industry’s finest including Marshmello, Yellow Claw, Jauz, Ghastly, and Zeds Dead among others. His recent discography in the form of ‘From The Start (feat. Kember Gold)’ and ‘Shimmer’ both received airplay on triple j, and also made their way to the top of the triple j Unearthed Electronic charts. In a few short years, Moss has already played alongside some of the world’s biggest artists that have had a great impact on Moss’ own artistry, the likes of Skrillex, RL Grime, Flosstradamus, Baauer, and Nero. Moss is far from an overnight success, but if this short warm-up is anything to go by, Moss’ name will be embedded on the world’s stage in years to come.
