After eight years at the station, triple j Weekend Lunch presenter Karla Ranby wi ll be hosting her last show this weekend.
Jumping into the triple j Weekend Lunch hot seat is 22-year-old Tyrone Pynor! You may have already heard Tyrone’s infectious energy across the airwaves when filling in on triple j Mornings, Lunch, Mid Dawns and on triple j Unearthed’s TOPS program.
Hailing from Mount Druitt, with his roots in PNG and the Torres Strait, Tyrone began his career as a broadcaster with SBS and NITV, where he made the switch from behind the camera to in front of the mic. But he’s a true creative all-rounder, with a focus on music, fashion and photography.
Tyrone says, “It is insanely surreal that I get to regularly hang out and talk about something I love so much, music. This little brown boy from Western Sydney never would’ve seen himself on a national stage like triple j, but since I’m here I plan on stepping into this role with strength, love and power for my other young POC dreamers.”
But Karla isn’t going far! She steps into an exciting new role as Diversity and Inclusion Lead across the ABC’s music networks, and will continue to produce and program triple j’s new First Nations show Blak Out.
Karla first started at triple j in 2013, where she worked on almost every show at the station before landing the Weekend Lunch gig in 2018. Behind the scenes, Karla has helped curate the sound of triple j as Group Music Researcher/Producer and Assist ant Music Director, while being an integral force in launching Blak Out.
Karla says, “It’s been the honour of a lifetime to be a triple j presenter and I’m seriously going to miss being on-air speaking to the biggest legends in the country every weekend. But I’m just as excited to be a listener again, and to cheer on my mate who’s taking over! As a proud Gamilaroi girl from Moree, I’ve always tried to use my position for good, and in my new role I plan to work as hard as I can to keep carving out spaces and opportunities for staff and musicians from diverse backgrounds to have the success that they deserve.”
In her new role, Karla will lead Diversity & Inclusion strategy, partnerships, content and campaigns across triple j, Double J, triple j Unearthed, ABC Classic, Country and Jazz.
Tune into Karla’s final pair of shows this weekend from 10am – 2pm!
Then you’ll catch Tyrone dancing in the studio every weekend starting from Saturday 3 July.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
