“The track unites a darting guitar melody with layers and layers of instrumentation that constantly move and switch between sounds: big, strong brass sections; trap-rap beat breakdowns; and tropical dancehall”.

Following on from their critically praised single ‘No Way’, Afro-Australian group True Vibenation have today returned with their latest single ‘You Don’t Love Me (You Love My Guitar)’ ft. Sylent Nqo – written and produced by the group themselves, and mixed by Chris Arnott (Friendless).
Recorded in a DIY studio in Harare, Zimbabwe, ‘You Don’t Love Me (You Love My Guitar)’ showcases the trio’s distinctive afrobeat sound, mixing traditional Sungura music with modern inflections. Opening with smooth guitar phrases from featured artist Sylent Nqo, the track quickly flows into an energetic mixture of vibrant horns, lively drums, and infectious vocal melodies.
True Vibenation talk about the recording process behind ‘You Don’t Love Me (You Love My Guitar)’: “It was all written in Zimbabwe while we were inspired and influenced by our surroundings. We were playing a festival there and afterwards hired an Air BnB in the capital (Harare). We were lucky enough to have some of the area’s best young musicians come through for recording sessions. We wanted to highlight the amazing talent that the country has to offer and also create something that reflects modern Zimbabwe as well as our Australian roots. Lyrically the song invites the fans to ‘look behind the curtain’ and see that their favourite musicians are regular humans too when the smoke and mirrors disappear.”
To coincide with the release, the band will embark on a national tour with dates in Sydney, Cairns, Scarborough, and Perth, including festival appearances at Party In The Paddock in Launceston, and WOMADelaide. In addition, they will be performing at international festival King’s Day at Noordelicht in Amsterdam, Netherlands, with further Europe dates to be announced in the coming months. This continues on from a relentless run of shows in 2019, where they performed across Europe, the UK and Australia.
Since their inception they have played festivals spanning the globe, including the iconic Glastonbury Festival (GBR), HIFA (ZWE), Bushfire Festival (Swaziland), Surfana Festival (NLD), Spreeviera Festival (DEU) and Azgo Festival (MOZ). They have supported international juggernauts Thievery Corporation and Ozomatil, as well as collaborating with an extensive roster of artists, including Australian hip hop group Haiku Hands on their critically praised single ‘Squat’.
Previous singles have been supported by online tastemakers Indie Shuffle (ZAF), Afropunk (USA), NME (GBR), Acid Stag, Pilerats, Purple Sneakers and Mixdown Magazine. They’ve also received extensive radio support from triple j and Double J, as well as community radio stations FBi, 4ZZZ, PBS, Radio Adelaide, Bay FM and 3RRR. Their single ‘The World Is Ours’ hit #1 on UK’s Spotify Viral 50 Charts and peaked at #4 on Global Viral 50.
‘You Don’t Love Me (You Love My Guitar)’ ft. Sylent Nqo is available worldwide now.
