Northern Ireland’s Two Door Cinema Club formed in 2007 and have since released five hugely successful records, as well as sold out shows and headlined festivals across the globe, with fans flocking to hear their unique blend of guitar-driven post-punk hooks paired with electronic, danceable beats. Two Door Cinema Club first gained attention with their 2010 debut album Tourist History containing their break out singles ‘Something Good Can Work’ and ‘Undercover Martyn’. The band have continued to evolve, peaking at #2 in the UK’s official Albums Chart with 2012’s follow-up album, Beacon, and then experimenting with Giorgio Moroder-esque disco and synth pop on 2016’s Gameshow, which also hit the UK Top 10 and paved the way for 2019’s new wave-inspired False Alarm and 2022’s Keep On Smiling. The band returned in 2023 with new single ‘Sure Enough’, and earlier this year sharedHappy Customers, a song which emanates sunshine nostalgia and takes a trip back to the band’s early soundscapes. Alongside a massive US tour and some UK arena shows in the first half of 2024, Two Door Cinema Club also returned to the Main Stage at Reading and Leeds Festival for the seventh time since their debut set in the NME & BBC Radio 1 tent back in 2010. Now, they bring that joyous energy to Australia alongside none other than Declan McKenna.

Hailing from Hertfordshire in the UK, Declan McKenna moved to Los Angeles to record his third album, What Happened To The Beach?. Where previously his biggest tunes hurtled along at 100mph, with the help of the California sun and producer Gianluca Buccellati (Arlo Parks and Lana Del Rey), the result is an album that revels in both space and atmosphere, evoking the sunshine Declan basked in. Naturally, an album written in response to the intensity of recent years, both personally and globally, also has moments of darkness, but the demons Declan McKenna once focused his writing on, such as corrupt FIFA officials or the oppressive grip of the right-wing media, are left aside. Writing a more personal album, particularly one that focuses on joy over disaster, might suggest a line drawn in the sand between Declan and Declan 2.0, but ultimately, What Happened To The Beach? is the sound of an artist operating at the peak of his confidence, while pushing himself in new directions. Declan McKenna has always been a whip-smart songwriter and storyteller, and he’s still those things, but primarily he’s just down for a good time this time around. Following main stage performances at Reading and Leeds Festival, Declan McKenna will perform an extensive tour of the US, including headline shows, as well as supporting Sabrina Carpenter on her upcoming US arena tour.

Supporting the tour are quintet Soft Launch, an upcoming indie-pop act heavily championed by taste-making publications like Dork and DIY Mag, who’ve coined them one of the most exciting bands on the scene right now. McKenna went as far as urging fans to go and listen to them and later took the group on tour with him in early 2024. They’ve even packed out their own headline shows without any publicly released music, including selling out London’s The Grace within an hour. There is an undeniable buzz about Soft Launch that can’t be ignored.

With a line up as undeniable as this, you won’t want to miss Two Door Cinema Club, Declan McKenna and Soft Launch as they bring their summery soundscapes to Australia this December.
