Life itself is the catalyst for Tyne-James Organ’s second album, ‘The Other Side’, released today. Life in all its trials, delights, and heartbreaks. In some ways, it’s a sequel to ‘Necessary Evil’, his Top 10 debut from 2021. But time moves on. Moments and experiences come and go. ‘The Other Side’ is all of that fusing into one, in all its shades of darkness and light.

The new album, produced by ARIA award-winning Chris Collins (Gretta Ray, Budjerah, Royel Otis), pushes Tyne-James’ songwriting to new heights, giving us a confident, raw vulnerability we haven’t seen before. Listen closely and you might hear sombre allusions to mental health, even death. But listen closer, and you’ll hear a meditation on love and hope, a spiritual spark that ignites that universal desire to know and understand.

Tyne shares, “this album is pretty much chapter two of my life. I hope people find hope, through listening. I hope they find some comfort or some inspiration for their own journey. Then I’ll feel like I’ve done a good job.”

The new single ‘Love Me Back’ explores the complexities of relationship dynamics. Tyne-James says, “we’ve all been in that weird relationship where we aren’t quite sure if it’s as serious as we perceive. Nevertheless, our feelings are running bloody rapid. If you know me, you’ll get the chorus from first listen. I remember sitting there in that moment, knowing full well I shouldn’t say the words, yet I did. You never imagine telling someone something like that and it be the defining part of ruining the relationship. Shit happens. It’s all funny to look back on now, but if only I bit my tongue ha ha.”

‘Love Me Back’ follows standout singlesBlue’, ‘All On Me’ ,‘One Way Ticket’, ‘Comedown’, and  ‘WorthMy Time, which have all amassed over 1.3 million combined streams to date.

Album title track, ‘The Other Side’ featuring Gordi, is a raw and honest reflection on mental health. ‘Sometimes’, created with Matt Corby is “a newer territory for me but another one that feels fresh and exciting”, Tyne says. ‘Everybody Wants To Fly’ created with Elliott and Alex from Delta Riggs, has a “don’t give a fuck” mentality, highlighting the carefree and weird state of existence. ‘Sunny Side Up’ written with Alexander Burnett (Thelma Plum, Hockey Dad, Hayden James, Flight Facilities) embraces Tyne-James’ true inner self, celebrating the chaos, managing ADHD and finding calmness within it all. ‘Means To An End’ is Tyne-James having a conversation with himself. Working with Gab Strum (Mallrat, Allday, Japanese Wallpaper) and Demi Louise (Wave Racer, Imogen Clark) Tyne created this song at home on the piano with his mum and nan watching on, every lyric a brutal dialogue that was cathartic. Closing the album is ‘Better Times’, written with Georgia Potter (Jordan Rakei)  leaving us with one last note of hope.

To celebrate the album release, Tyne-James whosted an instore signing and live acoustic performance in Sydney, performing some of the new tracks up close, at Hum On King, in Newtown (all ages, free event).
