Novocastrian quartet Vacations deliver their brand new single On Your Own, a woozy slacker pop anthem containing all the qualities that have seen a massive overseas buzz generated by the band with North America, Europe and the UK particularly taking notice.

With its modulated jangle and bouncing tempo, On Your Own flows forth in a seemingly effortless way, carrying with it well-crafted pop hooks almost as sharp as the acerbic wit behind the song’s lyrics. With an opening gambit that includes “a minor novelty, worn, torn, and draped with comedy,” the single announces a band with the skills required to take the next major step in their career path.

As Campbell Burns explains, “On Your Own marks a new direction and different dynamics for us, and I’m excited to see where it takes us. We’ve never sat down together as a group and fleshed out ideas as much as we have with this song. Lyrically, I enjoy writing ambiguously/non-gendered so that anyone can relate and interpret their own meaning. For myself, it speaks out about trying to find acceptance within an industry, personal growth, and not bending to anyone. I hope you find your own meaning when you listen to it”

Without industry backing, and propelled by an organic DIY word of mouth elevation, Vacations have amassed incredible stream and view numbers currently sitting on11.4million streams, with 84% from North America alone and over 3 million YouTube views.  Off the back of two quality EP’s then 2018’s debut LP Changes, Vacations have morphed from being a solo affair for main man Campbell Burns, to a fully-fledged unit featuring players and co-writers Jake Johnson, Nate Delizzotti and Joseph Van Lier.

In 2018 and again relying on their ability to thrive under DIY conditions, Vacations toured Europe and the UK for a month on the back of the album ‘Changes‘ and also played South East Asia including the Mahao Rasop Festival with the likes of Slowdive, The Vaccines and Washed Out. After venturing over to SXSW for the first time that year, Burns met up with some musicians he knew over Soundcloud who formed his backing band for the showcase event. With the original line-up unable to the event due to timing and financial circumstances, the amazing feat is testament to Vacations online presence.

The release of On Your Own coincides with the band venturing once more over to SXSW this time with the full line-up, brand new management and a sense of bigger things happening just beyond the rise.

Joining the tour is Denise Le Menice, who is also representing Australia at SXSW, touring on the back of her recent single ‘Stars’.

Sinclaire are on opening duty on this run, after selling their recent headliner at Slyfox on the back of their recent single ‘Headspace’.
