Melbourne-based producer, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Vetta Borne (Maribelle) delivers her first body of work, Violeta, out today. Written, produced and recorded entirely on her own, Vetta Borne’s debut EP enters the world as both a 5-track love-fuelled journey and a declaration of Maribelle finding her most unapologetically authentic voice and artistic identity.

The EP opens with debut single “Hey”, taking us straight back to the first release from her home studio. Quickly becoming a Vetta Borne classic, “Hey” returns to that familiar VB state of being, culminating in addictive melodies, a firm grasp of alternative-soul, R&B melodies and luxe vocals. “Drive In” u-turns back to that undeniably body-moving bass-line, paired with funk-infused guitar melodies, reverberated vocals and layers upon layers of electronica. Much like the complete enamourment that takes over when in a lover’s presence, Vetta Borne’s involuntary groove cannot be dismissed on “Drive In”, before she rolls into the unmistakable & infectious “R.I.P”. A whirlpool of soul and R&B, “R.I.P” encapsulates Maribelle’s expertise, from the first drum beat to the final falsetto lyric.

Next up is the latest single “Girls”, opening to the lows of Maribelle’s vocals before her high falsettos lead to a funk-driven chorus that cries a happy melancholic ode to love insecurities. Slowing down the pace,“Home” closes out the EP and pulls Maribelle’s innate gift for songwriting front and centre. Chronicling the marks past lovers leave on us, Maribelle’s lyricism deepens the emotional intensity, likewise drawing attention to her incredibly effortless vocal flow. Having quickly defined her sound, Violeta closes out as the first taste in a new chapter of Vetta Borne, proving the magic exists when Maribelle retains full creative control of her music-making process and artistic identity.

Maribelle on Vetta Borne and Violeta: “The Vetta Borne project was born on New Year’s Day 2019. My world stood still after the loss of my late grandmother and simultaneously I was witnessing in real time the birth of Vetta Borne. Call it a parting gift, a journal entry from a date that might normally be forgotten, but it sparked questions of purpose: Why here? Why now? Why Vetta Borne? The project is symbolic of growth and decay, like a flower in bloom that will come to wither away. There’s a lesson to be learned here, one unveiled to me in my personal loss. It’s a call-to-action of sorts that insists the way forward is dictated by that day.”

In her own words, “Vetta Borne is Maribelle; elevated”, with 2019 being the year all elements of Maribelle’s creative capabilities merged into her most fulfilling and authentic project to date. Maintaining autonomy over all her production, lyrical and recording processes, Vetta Borne comes as the final product of years spent working with some of Australia’s best producers including Djemba Djemba (Kehlani & Sia) & Styalz Fuego (Peking Duk & 360), all under the mentorship of Australian sensation M-Phazes (Eminem, Ruel). Destined for greatness, she co-wrote and produced triple j’s 2019 Unearthed High winning single from George Alice,“Circles”, which has now collected a whopping 3.9 million streams, as well as a co-writing credit on Becca Hatch’s latest release, “2560”. Highly regarded and trusted by her peers, Vetta Borne is currently lending her writing and producing talents to some of Australia’s most promising artists, working alongside the likes of Kira Piru, Thandi Phoenix, Mo’Ju (Mojo Juju) and Sam Bluer. Beyond the production suite, Vetta Borne continues to showcase Maribelle’s world-class vocals and lyricism audiences have come to love in previous singles such as “I’m A Mess Without You”, which has now collected 1 million streams, as well writing and performing Young Franco’s “Girls Don’t Cry” and Gold Certified single “Miss You”.

With big moments to come on the 2020 horizon, Vetta Borne finally shares a piece of herself in Violeta today. Unashamed, unfiltered and unrestrained, Violeta marks only the beginning for Vetta Borne and Maribelle’s deep dive into cementing her sound on her terms into Australia’s pop music scene.
