VINNY LUNAR
set to release new EP
“CHAUFFEUR”
with Sydney’s LOW BEAMS

Adapting. Evolving. Assuming form. Vinny is more confident and self-assured than ever before, cruising with his ally and companion, Low Beams – and us – along for the ride. Racism, identity confusion, and the emotional volatility of growing up brown in a settler nation, but make it cross-genre R&B. And make it a BOP.
Indian-Australian musician Vinny Lunar clearly got the memo, as he releases a new EP created with Sydney-based electronic producer, Low Beams, aka previously one-half of chillwave duo Polographia. With comparisons to Joji and Craig David, and a sound reminiscent of Kaytranada with a South-Asian influence, Vinny’s sound is really starting to take shape.
Following on from the Afrobeats banger ‘Prema’ in 2021 (produced by True Vibenation’s Moody), which was added to Spotify’s “R&B Feels” and “Date Night” playlists and proved especially popular in the UK, the 5 track EP is Vinny’s first collaborative body of work. The EP playfully poses the question of what might happen if a white guy was the brown boy’s driver for a change.
Having worked with Low Beams on the 2013 Polographia release ‘Right On’, the two long ago recognised a musical affinity despite their vastly different backgrounds, bonding over their shared love for R&B, and tasty Indian treats.
Reconnecting over coffee on Vinny’s return from two years spent honing his sound and identity in Berlin, the new joint project was born: Low Beams, acting as Vinny’s sonic sherpa, would be his driver and partner in crime for a 5-part concept EP and music video series, Chauffeur.
Low Beams shares, “Having been a production duo and artist myself, I wanted to focus on bringing out Vinny’s story. I also wanted to use my own privilege to give his story a greater chance to be heard.”

“Chauffeur is all about me learning to flip the script,” Vinny explains.
“We’re taking that classic immigrant trope of the taxi driver as a metaphor, and reversing the roles – it’s Dan (Low Beams) in the driver’s seat, while I get to sit back and relax, and share my stories.
This project was fuelled equally by my lifelong sense of never really fitting in, and me finally realising that my difference is also a source of power.”
Low Beams’ hard-hitting electronic and R&B-infused beats are the literal and figurative vehicle for Vinny’s stories, capturing colorism, depression, anxiety, and even seduction in a bright, brash, and defiant way. A hero’s journey from discontent and tension through to affirmation and glory – but you can also dance, grind and shake to it.
Multiple singles off the EP have received regular airplay on FBi Radio and were featured on BBC Radio’s Asia Network. Tracks from the EP were added to UK South-Asian Collective “DialledIn’s” Official Apple Playlist, and have received glowing reviews on Triple J Unearthed, and airtime on PBS and RRR, heralding the wave of global interest Chauffeur is provoking.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
